Must go to top floor, see the entire town. It is a step back in time when craftsmanship was the name of the game. We entered the courtroom ( not occupied) and Wer struck by the wood work throughout knowing that it has stayed the same many, many years. This 1894 courthouse ranks up there with some of the other beautiful county courthouses build in Texas. In fact, this one in Goliad was designed by the same person as the Caldwell courthouse in Lockhart (both are beautiful). We brought our bikes to go on the Angel of Goliad Hike and Bike Trail because the trailhead is just 2 short blocks to the south. This is a perfect starting point because you can also see the courthouse and the beautiful historic town square that surrounds the courthouse.See more..

Earlier this month I received an email from the Texas Historical Commission which contained a list of events in Texas. One of the events listed was a presentation at the Fanthorp Inn in Anderson, Texas, on James Green McDonald, Jr. (1858–1938), who was an influential figure in Grimes County History. Chandler Wahrmund, an educator/interpreter for the Texas Historical Commission, did a great job of telling us about this conflicted individual. He had a number of exhibits that enhanced his presentation. I always enjoy visiting this historic site. There is no admission fee, but donations are welcomed.See more..

What a beautiful church. Had the pleasure of having family live close by and took me to this beautiful cathedral church. The altar has a stained glass mural behind it with most of the windows coming from Munich. It was quiet but yet humbling to take in, felt like an old European church. Additionally, there weee names of the Czech families which donated to construct the church carved on the walls. Amazing.See more..

The Seaquist House Foundation, Inc. was established in December of 2014 and we purchased the house on Jan. 10, 2015. Our biggest projects to date (February, 2020) have been the total rewiring of the house and putting in an HVAC system. It originally took seven months to clean the house (it had been basically abandoned for almost ten years) and to get the odor of feral animals which had pretty much made it their "home"! We are currently working on converting the stand-alone garage into an outdoor bathroom ADA compliant facility by this summer as well as completing the restoration of the only interior bathroom on the second floor.See more..

4.0The Cottonland Castle(10 reviews) - Worth a Drive By ... Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings
A few minutes from downtown Waco, and certainly unique for the neighborhood (known as “Castle Heights”). Was only able to view the outside. Read here that you could possibly talk to a neighbor to get the number to someone who would let you view it but that didn't pan out. Did see a neighbor walking who didn't know it could be viewed. She stated she's only seen it host events for maybe like once a year. Was able to walk around the house freely and take pictures. However, while perusing the neighborhood, we stopped on a bridge like area to get an picture viewing the house from the canyon and was stopped by the area police/neighborhood security that asked us to move off bridge and park somewhere else.See more..

5.0Conoco Tower Station(6 reviews) - Best old gas station building on Route 66 Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
After completing Route 66, I would rank this as the best old gas station building on Route 66. The outside is gorgeous. Inside is a tiny gift shop and an empty cafe. If this was a functioning retro themed cafe to recreate a part of the Route 66, this would be a knock out destination. The building is so beautiful that I wish there was more to do, such as turning parts of the cafe into displays about the town, the gas station, or general Texas Route 66 info. I wanted to stay longer to admire it but it's creepy to hang out in a small gift shop. (I marked travelled as solo because there's no family option w/o children. Some of us drive around our senior parents. That's family last time I checked.)See more..

4.5Coryell County Courthouse(4 reviews) - Look carefully at the figures on the top of the building - one of our favorite of the historic Texas county courthouses Spent < 1 hour Architectural Buildings • Government Buildings
This 1897 courthouse is a beautiful structure, built with limestone and red sandstone bricks that were precut at the quarry to the exact size . At each entrance are columns, and over the east entrance is the builder's mark of an owl. On the roof are two statues: liberty and justice. The clock tower is capped by an eagle. After seeing the courthouse building, walk (or drive) to the corner of Main and 9th (directly across the street from the museum on Main) to see the mural which features the courthouse as well as other things.See more..

3.5Bandera County Courthouse(4 reviews) - If you like historical buildings, this is worth at 10 minute stop Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
There are two buildings at this location; the 1881 one-story old jail house and the 1868 two-story old courthouse. Both buildings are made of cut limestone. The 1868 building served as the courthouse until the present courthouse was built in 1891. The buildings are not open to the public but there is talk that one may be opened as a visitor center at a later date. The condition of both buildings is amusing. If you like historical buildings, this is worth at 10 minute stop.See more..

3.0Duval County Courthouse(3 reviews) - The Courthouse Spent < 1 hour Architectural Buildings • Government Buildings
I visited San Diego, Texas to check the block on my bucket list. i had known the town existed for many years. I am from San Diego, California. Two more contrasting towns cannot be imagined. Over the years the courthouse has been the scene for much historical drama as the ebb and flow of politics and crime. No need to spend much time there. San Diego itself had little to offer for other attractions.See more..
4.5Dewitt County Courthouse(3 reviews) - Another beautiful historic courthouse building in Texas Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Government Buildings
This 1896 building is one of the many beautiful county courthouses across Texas. Although there is currently extensive work being done on the grounds with a fence surrounding the building, it is still worth stopping to see if you enjoy historic buildings. The Opal Lawrence Historical Park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is a Recorded Texas Historical Landmark, and recognized as a Century Family Farm by the Texas Department of Agriculture. The home, which is considered Texas prairie vernacular styling, is basically in the same condition as it was originally built, with few modifications over the years. Outbuildings include a smokehouse, brick-lined root cellar, a wash house, large livestock barn (also built by Mr. Florrer in 1887) and mule barn. Assorted chicken coops also still are intact. The farmstead complex is representative of the evolution of domestic buildings from the 1870s to the late 20th century on the North Texas plains and blackland prairie.
