Robert Bruno Steel House, Texas, United States

3.5 (6 reviews) Spent < 1 hour Ranking #2 in Ransom Canyon Architectural Buildings

Outside View

Was only able to view the outside. Read here that you could possibly talk to a neighbor to get the number to someone who would let you view it but that didn't pan out. Did see a neighbor walking who didn't know it could be viewed. She stated she's only seen it host events for maybe like once a year. Was able to walk around the house freely and take pictures. However, while perusing the neighborhood, we stopped on a bridge like area to get an picture viewing the house from the canyon and was stopped by the area police/neighborhood security that asked us to move off bridge and park somewhere else.

    Unique architecture in West Texas
If you enjoy architecture and are traveling anywhere near Lubbock, you need to find your way to Ransom Canyon to see this house. The complete story can be found on a number of websites, but in short, the house was constructed by an architect over many years as kind of a hobby. It sits overlooking beautiful Ransom Canyon Lake. It is really unlike most any house you have ever seen. On incredibly rare occasions you can tour inside, but it is still enjoyable to get out of your car and walk around getting photographs of this stunning house. The "candy-cane" house is just across the street and is quite stunning also.

Love the House But Want a Tour!
I take folks by the Bruno Steel House all the time. Ransom Canyon is beautiful. It is. And I love driving through it. Especially beautiful is this house poised on the edge of a cliff facing the rare body of water around Lubbock. But mostly, it's not open. No sign of a tour. No way to BE inside, or if there is, we don't know about it. Love peering through the windows and drawing about what must be inside, but right now, it's just a drive through/peer through. No real information. No real tour. To be honest, it's not really a tourist attraction, but it's a unique piece of architecture to drive by.
