Open Wednesday - Monday. Formerly the Nimitz Museum, the complex is now the only museum in the Continental United States centered on World War II's Pacific campaign. Since 1968, the Museum has expanded to occupy a six-acre campus and gained a reputation as one of the premier military museums in the nation. Over the years the Museum was upgraded and enlarged, and the campus grew to accommodate the Memorial Courtyard, the Plaza of Presidents, and the Japanese Garden of Peace. We opened the expanded George H. W. Bush Gallery in 2009. The Gallery's state-of-the-art 33,000 square foot exhibition features 40 media installations, approximately 900 artifacts in 97 climate-controlled cases, 15 macro-artifacts, and hundreds of photographs. Two blocks east of the main campus is the Pacific Combat Zone. Recently reopened after an $8 million renovation. The PCZ is also home to our popular WWII Pacific Combat Program that takes place on set weekends throughout the year. See more..

  4. 4.5 Texas Military Forces Museum (264 reviews)
    - Top Notch History
    Monday: Military Museums
    Texas Military Forces Museum image
This is an absolute gem of a museum. If you have any interest in the military history of the past 150 years, this is worth a visit. The history in the explanatory panels is top notch, the dioramas are fascinating and there are exhibits that I haven’t seen anywhere else. It’s unusual to see German artillery equipment, for example. The breadth and diversity of the displays speak both to the generosity of the Texans who contributed the items in the exhibits, and to their courage and steadfastness in battle without losing sight of the larger historical context. Don’t miss this one. See more..

    1st Cavalry Division Museum image
We recently visited the 1st Cavalry Museum on our visit to Fort Hood. To start with, there is plenty of parking and no entrance fee. The museum has two buildings and then a walking park area with military equipment. The first building contains history of the division and has several relics of Cavalry history on display. Don't forget to ask the front desk for the treasurer hunt which is great for kids. The second building has information on the war on terror and also has the gift shop and restrooms. Once you are done with the tour, you can walk the park outback and see the numerous military vehicles. This is a great way to spend some time and learn some history. Great for families or people just looking for some history. See more..

Another employee shared a couple of humorous stories about a buggy and the barn. My sister had been there before when a movie was being filmed and she enjoyed that also. All of the employees were friendly and helpful. See more..

Fort Lancaster State Historic Site image
A stone chimney stands among long-abandoned, silent ruins - a faithful sentinel still guarding this remote military post in the Pecos River valley. Spanning 82 acres, the site commemorates the vestiges of one of four posts established in 1855 to protect the military route between San Antonio and El Paso. Wander through ruins imagining the once-impressive establishment of 25 permanent buildings including a blacksmith shop, hospital, sutler's store and bakery. Listen to knowledgeable staff discuss the fort's importance and enjoy the sights, sounds and wildlife of West Texas. See more..

Walked in and looked around the exhibition rooms. It has many historical things in display from the town. The Native American clothing was interesting to see. The grounds still have the fort buildings but were not open to tour. Hopefully one day the buildings can be restored to persevere the history of the actual fort. As a visitor, it would enhance Eagle Pass's tourism and bring more family things to do while in the area. Overall it was a nice visit and the docent was friendly. The buildings photographed nicely. We are glad that we stopped by for a visit. See more..

    Laughlin Heritage Foundation Museum image
For some one who did not know what was coming I was very surprised and pleased to have come to this museum. It is a shopfront and not busy. I was warmly welcomed and the curator gave me a personal tour of the site. The main emphasis is the high flying plans such as the U2 and the Blackbird, which were based locally. The exhibits were fascinating including genuine artifacts from the planes and photos showing what was seen in the Cuban missile crisis. Well worth a visit and a big hand to the people keeping this place alive See more..

    Confederate Memorial Museum image
I love historic buildings and I absolutely was intrigued by this one! It is located in the historic area and near the courthouse where there was a farmers market going on during a Saturday morning. It was easy to park and walk around. The monument stands out looking like a castle so it was easy to find. I have traveled all over visiting war monuments and this is by far the most unique one I have come across. Hopefully this beautiful architectural gem can stay preserved as a historic landmark for many generations to come. It truly is worth stopping just to look at. See more..

Parking is accessed from the street one block south of Batallion, so expect to see it. Drive to the next cross street and circle back to the museum. This museum is pretty small but has some great artifacts. It will only take a half hour or so. It is a good second stop after visiting the1st Cavalry Museum. See more..
