  1. 4.5 Waco Suspension Bridge (1.027 reviews)
    - Fascinating view back in time and a lovely bridge

    Waco Suspension Bridge image
The Waco Suspension Bridge is the oldest Suspension Bridge still standing in Texas. Built it 1870, it was the first bridge across the Brazos River. This stunning bridge was built with cables supplied from John Roebling's firm, which built the Brooklyn Bridge. Today, it is a pedestrian-only bridge and is a wonderful place to watch the river roll by. See more..
  2. 4.5 Faust Street Bridge (116 reviews)
    - Interesting short touch point with history
    Bridges
    Faust Street Bridge image
This bridge used to help overcome flooding of the Guadaloupe and is set high above the river so who knows how high it used to flood. In any case it is a piece of history and hard to imagine this was a highway crossing when now it lies at the end of a relatively quiet suburban street. Managing expectations whilst it has a great view down to the river there is a factory at the end but realistically people who built bridges also need to build things that created jobs not just pretty bridges for future Instagrams. This is an easy drop by whilst driving through New Braunfels See more..
  3. 4.5 The Regency Suspension Bridge (57 reviews)
    - Well worth the drive to be able to walk across this 1939 suspension bridge

Everyone who watches Texas Country Reporter (as we regularly do) will enjoy walking across the bridge used for the show's opening. We approved from the north of San Saba and had to drive a few miles on a caliche road in order to reach the bridge, but the road was not bad at all (we were expecting lots of loose gravel, but that was not the case). Because of structural issues, the bridge has been closed to traffic but it is open for walking (we were there in mid-December). If you are near Gatesville or San Saba, it is worth the drive to experience this 1939 suspension bridge, one of the last of its kind in Texas. See more..

    Pecos River Bridge image
Beautiful views. The Pecos River High Bridge is the tallest bridge in Texas. Built across the Pecos River Canyon near Langtry Texas. To view this you must enter the first picnic area on the left past Seminole Canyon. The picnic area is marked the overlook is not. well worth the side trip not only to see the bridge but for the great views of the Pecos River Canyon. See more..
  5. 4.0 Beveridge Bridge (20 reviews)
    - A beautiful old (1896) bridge, but don't plan to walk across

Visited in late December 2020. We had just come from the Regency Bridge where we were able to walk across, and we were expecting to walk across this smaller (but older) bridge too. The 140' bridge spans the San Saba River. It was recently closed and blocked even for foot traffic. But still, if you like to see old bridges, you will want to see this one, which is located just a couple of miles northwest of town. There is plenty of space to park. See more..

It is the only operating Whipple Bridge left in Texas. This bridge will need repairs in order to be utilized before many more years. It is a one of a kind and great for learning about bridge making in the in the late 1870's. See more..

    - Glad we were able to see it and drive over Piano Bridge

It was a really cool bridge with a great history. Nice that we have things like this. We were fortunate, the Painted Church that was close by was supposed to have been not available for a tour. We saw some folks standing outside the church and decided to stop and check it out. Good thing cause it was open and available to view. The drive from the church to the bridge was really pretty. 9. 3.0 Old Alton Bridge (2 reviews)
    - Step back to 1884

This was an interesting bridge to visit and walk across. It’s great that the citizens of Denton County chose to preserve it, and it was rather amazing to learn the bridge, built in 1884, only ceased operations in 2001! Our visit here was well under 30 minutes. There was a gravel parking area and the bridge was quite close by. Other than walking over the bridge there were some walking trails but we didn’t take the time for those on this visit. We did see some people fishing and kayaking and it appeared to be a popular spot for locals. See more..
  10. 5.0 Medio Creek Bridge (1 review)
    - If you like to visit historic bridges, it is worth a stop

    Medio Creek Bridge image
This truss bridge was built in 1897 and at one time was part of the main route from Beeville to San Antonio. It was closed to traffic in 1987, and it is now also closed to pedestrians. The wooden planks are not safe, so don't try. To find the bridge, from the main road to Beeville, take Normanna's Main Street to the west. In about 1 mile you will see the bridge on your left. 11. 4.0 Sandies Creek (1 review)
    - Taste of old unincorporated Texas

    Sandies Creek image
If you enjoy walking quiet and untrafficked unpaved roads, sites of endless fields of cattle while enjoying the splendor of a creek filled with lily pads; Sandies Creek and its old bridge are worth a visit. There are various other rural roads connected to explore as well. An old family cemetery and various tractors can be found on display in the surrounding areas. The view of a impressive hill with its pastures can be found north of the creek, worthy of photography. Sun flowers ornament the landscape in the late summer. See more..
  12. 3.0 Normanna Texas (1 review)
    - The main reason to go here is to get to the Medio Bridge a little to the west off "Main" Street

    Normanna Texas image
We had read about the old Medio Bridge, and the only thing we knew was that it was in Normanna, just north of Beeville. The Bridge is worth seeing if you like old bridges like we do. It is closed to all traffic, vehicle or foot, but you can walk right up to it for a close look See more..
  13. 4.0 Moore's Crossing Bridge (1 review)
    - 1884 bridge was once part of bridge that across the Colorado River at Congress Ave
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Bridges
Moore's Crossing Bridge was built‎ in ‎1884. The 3 span bridge was originally part of the 6 span bridge that across the Colorado River at Congress Avenue. In 1915, 3 spans were moved to the current location but destroyed in a flood the same year. In 1922, the remaining spans were put at this location for us to enjoy. The bridge is located on the east side of Richard Moya Park (south side of the Austin airport). It was nice to walk across the historical bridge. It’s free. See more..
  14. 3.0 Historic 1937 Truss Bridge (1 review)
    - It’s not the Golden Gate… :-)

    Historic 1937 Truss Bridge image
It was a lovely bridge with an erector set feel. We’re not quite sure why this is an attraction. It was near our campsite though, so we checked it out. I’d like to know more about it, but we didn’t see any historical placards with information. There is a park underneath the bridge that might be nice to explore. See more..

    Colorado River Bridge image
The old Iron 1,285 foot long Colorado River Bridge has three steel truss spans and concrete piers that cross the Colorado River. It is part of Loop 150 through Bastrop. The bridge is one of the earliest surviving uses of the Parker truss in Texas. The bridge was built in 1923 and is now a pedestrian bridge but it was closed during my visit. See more..
