    Texas State Capitol image
If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes. See more..

Attended a special event that allowed us to meet an employee from each department of the building and design our own dollar. Even without the event, the free guided tour would have been worthwhile. My 9 year old was so impressed with the "money factory" and unique gift shop. A must see in the DFW area!! See more..

    Goliad County Court House image
This 1894 courthouse ranks up there with some of the other beautiful county courthouses build in Texas. In fact, this one in Goliad was designed by the same person as the Caldwell courthouse in Lockhart (both are beautiful). We brought our bikes to go on the Angel of Goliad Hike and Bike Trail because the trailhead is just 2 short blocks to the south. This is a perfect starting point because you can also see the courthouse and the beautiful historic town square that surrounds the courthouse. See more..

    - Beautiful Old Courthouse
Sunday: Points of Interest & Landmarks • Government Buildings
    Hill County Courthouse image
Well I don't really know how much of the courthouse is original, however I do recall the fire which destroyed the building. They have done an outstanding job in restoration. We just made a drive by and did not go inside. We used to go to Hillsboro quite often to the Outlet Mall however many of those shops have closed as we noted this past week end. Looks like we may be ending that shopping trip unless something drastically happens to the shops. A trip to Hillsboro to see the old courthouse would be worth one's time. See more..

This place is full of the business of Livingston and Polk County but the historic features are fun to look at where as it may not be so fun for official purposes. The landscape around the courthouse is always kept in picture perfect shape. If you are traveling through Livingston along Highway 190 then you can not miss it or you was asleep and that might be why you are at the courthouse to begin with... lol This place is awesome to pass by and see or park and walk around. A beautiful town square and courthouse, and at night is very active. There are several nice town squares in Texas, but this is one of the most lively because it is a college town. I visited San Diego, Texas to check the block on my bucket list. i had known the town existed for many years. I am from San Diego, California. Two more contrasting towns cannot be imagined. Over the years the courthouse has been the scene for much historical drama as the ebb and flow of politics and crime. No need to spend much time there. San Diego itself had little to offer for other attractions. See more..

This 1896 building is one of the many beautiful county courthouses across Texas. Although there is currently extensive work being done on the grounds with a fence surrounding the building, it is still worth stopping to see if you enjoy historic buildings. - Historic Courthouse - Box-Shaped
    Government Buildings
    Leon County Texas image
The historic courthouse was erected in 1886 and stands next to the Leon County Jail on the square. A misunderstanding between county commissioners and the contractor resulted in the cost being doubled that of the estimate. The 1858 Courthouse burned in 1886 and was replaced. The courthouse was built during the “golden age” of courthouse construction when building were shaped like a box-shaped building and lacked much of the grand features of other Texas county courthouses as we was in neighborngWaxahachie. Only the 1886 courthouse is still standing. The front side of the Courthouse faces Saint Mary's See more..

    Karnes County Courthouse image
We enjoy looking at old Texas Courthouses and this one in Karnes City does not disappoint. There isn't much else in town and this structure really towers over the little town. It was built in 1894 in a "Romanesque Revival" design. The clock tower and turrets are really nicely done. From here, you should drive a few miles north to the historic village of Helena which has the original county courthouse. See more..
  30. 4.0 Lavaca County Courthouse (1 review)
    - Old courthouse
Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Government Buildings
We stopped to look at this courthouse and read the historical marker while on a recent road trip. The date on the building is 1897. The style of the building is Romanesque Revival. The one hundred seventy-feet tall courthouse is made of brown sandstone and grey stone shipped in by rail as huge boulders from Mill County. These stones were measured and cut on site by local farmers and other laborers. It has a hipped roof and heavy towers with pyramidal roofs which look a whole lot like those pyramids in Egypt. The windows are tall and narrow and have what are called lintels. The clock tower contains a seven foot tall Seth clock and can be seen from miles away. I've been told that the courthouse is beautifully decorated at Christmas. See more..

This 1936 WPA Post Office (currently operating) sits in the shadows of the 1908 Hardeman County Courthouse. Inside is a magnificent WPA mural by Jerry Bywaters entitled "The Naming of Quanah." From Philip Parisi's "The Texas Post Office Murals", "[This] montage stresses the principal elements in the history of what is now Hardeman County.
