Coryell County Courthouse, Texas, United States
4.5 (4 reviews) Spent < 1 hour Ranking #3 in Gatesville Architectural Buildings • Government Buildings
Look carefully at the figures on the top of the building - one of our favorite of the historic Texas county courthouses
This 1897 courthouse is a beautiful structure, built with limestone and red sandstone bricks that were precut at the quarry to the exact size . At each entrance are columns, and over the east entrance is the builder's mark of an owl. On the roof are two statues: liberty and justice. The clock tower is capped by an eagle. After seeing the courthouse building, walk (or drive) to the corner of Main and 9th (directly across the street from the museum on Main) to see the mural which features the courthouse as well as other things.

One of the prettiest courthouses in Texas.
In college, I did a study of Texas courthouses for an Art project. I selected this courthouse ans the most appealing to the eye.

Wonderful Second Empire Vis=ctorian Coryell County Courthouse
If you are a history buff, and architecture buff, and a day trip to interesting places buff, you will love this beautiful limestone building. It has a working clock in the clock tower, and has been recently restored (2016). Make it a day trip and enjoy the small town of Gatesville.
