For lovers of art and history, don't miss the 1938 Mural "The Naming of Quanah"
This 1936 WPA Post Office (currently operating) sits in the shadows of the 1908 Hardeman County Courthouse. Inside is a magnificent WPA mural by Jerry Bywaters entitled "The Naming of Quanah." From Philip Parisi's "The Texas Post Office Murals", "[This] montage stresses the principal elements in the history of what is now Hardeman County. Revered Comanche chief Quanah Parker, shown in full ceremonial attire faces a gun-toting white man. He holds a peace pipe prominently with one hand and with the other displays the sign of peace."
