Beautiful Old Courthouse

Well I don't really know how much of the courthouse is original, however I do recall the fire which destroyed the building. They have done an outstanding job in restoration. We just made a drive by and did not go inside. We used to go to Hillsboro quite often to the Outlet Mall however many of those shops have closed as we noted this past week end. Looks like we may be ending that shopping trip unless something drastically happens to the shops. A trip to Hillsboro to see the old courthouse would be worth one's time.

    Awesome restoration, Mr. Nelson
First, look at the pictures of the fire which gutted the place in 1993. Then go inside and marvel at the restoration, partially funded by home town hero, Willie Nelson. Beautiful new woodwork. Walls and exteriors all re-done and spruced. Would have been so easy just to tear it down and build a concrete box, a la Walker County. Really good job, people.

    Quick Visit
This was an interesting courthouse. The original one had a fire and the dome part caved in. You can see a list of donors who helped rebuild.Willie Nelson gave a couple of concerts to help rebuild.
