Perfect place to start a bike ride to the historic missions and see the historic town square

This 1894 courthouse ranks up there with some of the other beautiful county courthouses build in Texas. In fact, this one in Goliad was designed by the same person as the Caldwell courthouse in Lockhart (both are beautiful). We brought our bikes to go on the Angel of Goliad Hike and Bike Trail because the trailhead is just 2 short blocks to the south. This is a perfect starting point because you can also see the courthouse and the beautiful historic town square that surrounds the courthouse.

One of the finest court houses we have seen
Goliad square was a surprise find in our trip through Texas history. The town square boasts one of the finest examples of court house architecture that we have seen in any of our travels. The site is well preserved complete with "The Hanging Tree" still thriving right outside of the court house steps. Spend some time wondering the grounds and you will begin to grasp life in a Texas town in the 1800's. When you are tired step across the street to one of the wonderful restaurants.

    A Must-Visit Historical Site
We had the wonderful opportunity to visit this beautiful county courthouse while touring this most historic city. The courthouse is beautifully preserved though it is still a working facility. Any staff you encounter will glady give a short but informative tour. The staircases are original and a must-see. An additional must visit includes the familiar Hanging Tree located in front of the square. There are some really good vintage shops and restaurants on the square. A grest side visit after visiting the Presidio Bahia.
