Don't mess with Texas --- Big State Capitol for a Big State

If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

    Wonderful Building
It was a rainy day so we decided to spend the afternoon touring the capitol. We joined the free 1/2 hour tour. Unfortunately English was not the tour guide's first language so one had to really concentrate to understand what she was saying. Since there was a big crowd of us and she didn't have a microphone or any amplification, this was difficult. We saw the rotunda (beautiful) and then were taken down to see some areas in the basement. Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to see the rest of the building. (It is huge though)

    The grounds are beautiful
I didn't go inside the actual building but I did stroll the grounds and look at all the memorials and statues, which were very nicely done. The architecture is awesome and the views of many of the statues take on a whole new life at sunset. They seem a bit too proud of their confederate past but its a part of history so you have to roll with it i suppose.
