We travel from Austin to visit the McKenna Children's Museum about once every quarter. My 4 year old LOVES it! It is full of pretend play opportunities--a hospital with an ambulance parked out front; a fully-stocked grocery store; a hardware store; a bank; camping site complete with tent, camp fire, cave, and kayak; an arts and crafts room always ready for painting at easels. We arrive at 11, play for an hour, eat lunch in their yummy cafe (DELICIOUS SALAD BAR FOR A LITTLE OVER $5), and then return for a couple more hours of play time. Beautiful building, beautiful museum, beautiful time!See more..

The dinosaurs were life size. The details were close to realistic. The lighting emphasized the details .The audio thru the car bluetooth was very informative. The children were impressed by the vibrations of the car speakers mimicking dinosaurs thumping on the ground.I had to replay the thumping segment a few times over as requested by the kids.We all enjoyed it!See more..

5.0The Depot Museum(8 reviews) - Great cheap entertainment for little ones Sunday: Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • Children's Museums • History Museums
I take my son (currently 13 months) to the depot play room often. It's only $1 to play or you can buy a yearly membership for $15. The playroom is inside and is a large area with a bunch of centers. They have legos, trains, dress up, puppets and a puppet stage, a play house, music centers, books, art centers, and kitchen centers. My son was happily entertained for 2 hours. I just followed after him putting toys away as he wandered around. We will definitely be going back!See more..
5.0TrainTopia(8 reviews) - Great personal model train collection Sunday: 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Children's Museums
Amazing personal collection of model trains. Definitely do the scavenger hunts. It helps you see more details. Take the time to learn about the collection from the staff. It made the visit so much more meaningful. We did not do the outdoor train tour as we have a large transportation museum in our home town, so I can’t comment on that portion.See more..

4.0Aviation Museum at Garner Field(4 reviews) - Old boy's men's shed This location was reported permanently closed Spent 1-2 hours Children's Museums • History Museums
Old blokes have a world of experience and a cauldron of knowledge. These old boys are bound by their passion for old aircraft. Open after lunch on a Friday, the museum has a range of vintage aircraft and rooms of memorabilia. Some of the aircraft have war history and others are home built. We spent a delightful hour talking with a veteran of the Korean war. If you like man defying gravity this is worth the stop.See more..
4.0Curious Museum(2 reviews) - Hands-on Science Museum - great family fun Sunday: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM Speciality Museums • Science Museums • Children's Museums
I thought this might be geared for much younger children than our high-school age, and it is, however it was a home run hit. The exhibits are amazing, and while "hands-on" can also sometimes mean it will be very limited and elementary, this museum does an amazing range of activities. Craft various paper shapes to experiment with a vertical wind tunnel. Raise a huge bubble curtain and do a group bubble-blow. Shift sands with your hands and see topography recolor from a projector above. Cast your own shadows in front of colored lights to mix colors in their absence (VERY cool). Build marble runs. Stand in a human kaleidoscope. And more. Great value for a nominal admission price!See more..
4.0Texas Children's Museum(1 review) - It reminds me of a toy store where all the packages have been opened! Children's Museums
I rated it from a child’s eyes. There are so many themed rooms with awesome toys. The concept is amazing. It’s an older building with old carpet, paint, etc but kids don’t care. A lot of thought has been out into designing child centered activities. Our favorites were the fort, space black light room, indoor Gaga ball, music room with instruments and stage. There are a lot of opportunities for play. The building has portable a/c units and fans so it is a little warm.See more..
5.0Play Street Museum - The Woodlands(1 review) - Perfect for little children Children's Museums We visited with 3 children — 6 years, 3 years and 14 months. All were cheerfully entertained for 2 hours. They would have stayed all day — but it was time for lunch. The huge train set is a major draw — a magnet for the 2 older boys. There are mini vehicles to ride, and others to enter — bus, food truck, etc. Rooms are available for imaginative play in medicine, cooking, banking, pets. High quality building blocks were quite appealing for creative little architects. Clean, safe and bright with seating for tired parents. Free parking garage nearby. Highly recommended!See more..
3.0Explorium - Denton Childrens Museum(1 review) - It's OK, just OK Children's Museums Lots of fun things for kids to do here but it feels a little outdated. The noise level is very loud and the ventilation is not good, at one point I wasn't even sure if they had the AC on. My grandson loved this place and I would bring him back. For the cost it's something inexpensive to do indoors that will help the kids get out some energy but tamper your expectations.See more..
