Pull off a cannonball jump at this three-acre swimming pool in Zilker Park. Fed by natural underground springs with an average temperature of 68 degrees Fahrenheit year-round, this limestone pool is a lovely respite from the scorching Texan summers. Switch between tanning on the lawns and swimming in the chilly waters. Plan your visit though as admission is only free in the early morning and late at night. Nominal fees are collected in between. The pool is closed for cleaning on some days, so it’s best to check ahead. Visit on weekdays for fewer crowds. – TripadvisorSee more..

4.5San Gabriel River(96 reviews) - Absolutely Beautiful Park Bodies of Water
This was our first visit to the San Gabriel River and park but it won’t be our last. It is like a magical place hidden in the middle of a busy, populated area. The river winds around the park and even flows over a small rock formation to cascade down onto a swiftly moving river. There are soccer fields and baseball fields and gorgeous trees all around. It is so big and beautiful, that it is hard to believe that it is free. There are people running and watching/ playing various sports, but the park is so vast and peaceful, that you don’t notice anything but the beauty surrounding you.See more..

Living in DFW, I really hadn't heard much about this lake. This is an undiscovered quiet lake which is a nature lover & fisherman's paradise! So many coves to paddleboard in & a wide open water area by the dam for skiing & tubing. What sets this lake apart are all the hills & very tall trees! Multiple RV parks on the water, & 2 food grills with live music make it a great destination! Right now the lake is like 'On Golden Pond', but I'm sure once this hidden gem will be discovered by more folks as words spreads of it's beauty!See more..

3.0Lake Balmorhea(32 reviews) - Nice except for all the trash! Bodies of Water
Nice size lake in the middle of the desert. We camped at Balmorhea State Park, (which is awesome for a small park), and were looking forward to fishing at Lake Balmorhea. We started at the damn but it was way too windy so we drove around to the south side to find a calmer spot. We found an area with covered tables and decided to fish there. It was so trashed out - beer cans, plastic bottles, cigarette butts, broken glass, flip-flops, plastic bags, confetti (piñata?) and a bunch of other crap. The guys who dump the trash cans came by when we were there and took the cans but didn't bother to walk around a pick up the obvious trash laying around. Really sad.... This could be an amazing little lake area. We will not be returning. Had to get a day fishing license and pay $5 per person to fish here - $50 for 2 people to fish! Don't waste your time or money.See more..

Twin coves has had many faces over the years. It really is a premium camp ground for primitive and RV goers alike. There are also new cabins, too. The boat ramp is spacious. The restrooms are clean and have nice showers. It is small; so, privacy isn't great, due to the lack of landscapes between sites. But, modern conveniences are there. Pay up front at the automatic kiosk.See more..
