beautiful blue.....

A lake bordered by Texas on one side and Mexico on the other with 1,000 miles of shoreline - an excellent venue for fishing and boating.

    Camping by the water
We traveled to Big Bend NP so on the way camped overnight at Amistad NRC. It was a bit windy at times, with out notice it comes up. Nice sites with picnic tables and latrines close by.

    The tides long gone out!
A nice place to camp in IF you go to the right area! It appears the tide went out here a while ago as people have been draining the Rio Grande for irrigation much more than has been coming in from rainfall. Leaving some campsites stranded in boring scrubby regen miles from the lake edge. Governor's Landing is the exception, and gives you a nice overlook with running water and covered picnic tables. Although even here you will need to hike some distance to get to the lake edge. You can tell the place has seen better days, there are literally hundreds of boats in storage facilities nearby, yet next to none on the lake itself and that was over Easter! One can only hope the local authorities grow a backbone and put measures in place to rejuvenate this asset.
