4.5Old West Stables(31 reviews) - Had the best morning Spent 1-2 hours Equestrian Trails • Horseback Riding Tours
Booked this ride after the first two I saw online were closed. I’m so glad! Arrived 30 min before the ride began at 8am for check in. Guides were very friendly and helpful. Explained everything before getting started. It was an easy one hour ride and the horses knew exactly what they were doing! You just sat back and enjoyed the scenery! See more..
4.0Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge(19 reviews) - Great place to roam around and launch a canoe Spent More than 3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Equestrian Trails • Hiking Trails
My husband and I went to Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge on a Tuesday morning. We drove the Auto Tour Route and other roads (paved, gravel, dirt). Some roads are only open to vehicle traffic September 15 to December 31. The visitor’s center was closed, probably due to Covid-19. Luckily, there were not many mosquitoes on our visit. We saw remains of the 1942 Longhorn Army Ammunition plant. The plant operated for about 48 years. We saw deer, ducks and one snake. Our favorite lake viewing location was at the Ken Gentry Pavilion. That looked like a great place to launch a canoe or kayak. There are many hiking trails; Cemetery Trail, Magazine Trail, the Starr Ranch Trail and a short wildlife blind trail. The NMR is open 7 days a week from sunrise to sunset. There is no entrance fee. We could have easily spent a half day but we spent an hour.See more..

4.0Pole Canyon Ranch(5 reviews) - Equestrian facilities Spent More than 3 hours Equestrian Trails
Great riding, trails are well marked, electrical hook ups... beautiful sites... no bikers allowed which is great when your riding See more..
Great experience for new and experienced riders! Dusty and his crew were awesome. They matched me and my kiddos to their horses based on height and riding experience. The horses were very gentle. I had ridden here before with the previous company, but we were taken on new exciting trails. Even their safety helmets were a cut above the others - they were shaped like cowboy hats! I definitely recommend this activity for everyone who loves horses and nature.See more..

5.0Tres Molinos Resort & Event Center(2 reviews) - Beautiful and Peaceful Place to Stay Equestrian Trails • Fishing Charters & Tours • Horseback Riding Tours
Stayed here for part of our 8-day family tour of the Hill Country area. Lots of driving and hotels, so we were eager for a little more space at Tres Molinos, we were not disappointed. We stayed at the Ranch House, which large is beautiful. The views are incredible, you can see every star at night. We went horseback riding, rode a side-by-side around the ranch all day, fished, and one of us went swimming in the pond. We loved it. Angela and Elizabeth were super friendly. We actually opted to stay an extra day and pushed other stops back just to spend more time here. Easy drive into Fredericksburg, which is beautiful (when it is open). This is not a “resort” in terms on fine dining, spas, etc., but that is not what we were looking for. At Tres Molinos you enjoy peace, space, and cleanliness, plus options like horseback riding. We highly recommend it and wished we could have stayed longer.See more..
4.5Cagle Recreation Area(2 reviews) - What a Hidden Gem! Equestrian Trails • Hiking Trails • Forests I was surprised to see that this place is not on TripAdvisor. Great campground right on Lake Conroe. Spots are well spaced and the facility is in great shape. Camp hosts are very friendly and helpful. They have several reservable spots but most are walk-ups which tend to fill up quickly on the weekends. Bathrooms are older, but clean. Great trails for hiking and lots of firewood in surrounding area. Book your spots at reservations.govSee more..
