One of my favorite places in Irving. Photos don't do them justice. They are larger than life and the water splashing up from below makes them come alive. This is a perfect place for photo ops, senior pics, or just for a relaxing stroll after eating dinner across the street. Highly recommend.See more..
We decided that we would take a road trip to Huntsville from Houston area on a beautiful crisp winter day. First stop was the statue and visitor center. It is right on Interstate 45 at the entrance to Huntsville. The personnel at the VC were very nice with good directions on how to get to our next stop. The area nearby was inviting with lots of trees and bushes. The walk to see Sam Houston was minimal. While on the way we saw just the head of Sam sitting on the ground so we took a funny picture picking his nose. Ha! This is the world's tallest statue of an American hero at 77 feet tall constructed by David Adickes and dedicated in 1994. Everyone who drives I-45 past Huntsville sees this character.See more..
4.5JFK Tribute(211 reviews) - Ask not what your country can do for you. Monuments & Statues
Dallas is a world-famous city because of the JFK assassination. He stayed at Hotel Texas in Fortworrth on November 22nd, 1963. Now the hotel is the Hilton Fortworth. There is a statue of JFK at the Hilton. I visited there. The statue reminded me of his words, " Ask not what your country can do for you'. Great statue!See more..
4.0Stonehenge II(196 reviews) - A bit of England Sunday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Monuments & Statues
Neolithic Britons (or nature-worshiping Druids or space aliens, depending on who you listen to) began assembling Stonehenge on the plains of Salisbury, England more than 5000 years ago. Its original purpose is still under debate ... but there is no mystery (or purpose, really) behind the Texas Hill Country's version. Stonehenge II was created as an art project by the late Al Shepperd, a Hill Country Arts Foundation patron, and his neighbor Doug Hill more than 20 years ago on Shepperd's land in nearby Hunt, Texas. Stonehenge II It took nine months to build and is 90 percent the height and 60 percent the width as the original. Giving free range to his fanciful notion, Shepperd added two 13-foot Easter Island head replicas for good measure. After Shepperd's death, the megalithic circle along with its Easter Island sidekicks needed a new home. In an effort to preserve this true Texas landmark, the sculptures were relocated stone-by-stone to their final resting place beside the Guadalupe River on the campus of the Hill Country Arts Foundation.See more..
4.5Bonfire Memorial(183 reviews) - Powerful and humbling memorial Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues • Scenic Walking Areas
What a well thought out memorial with each detail representing the tradition, loss of life and spirit of the Aggie pride. The free booklet offered in the parking lot gives an overview of the history behind the bonfires and describes each detail of the memorial. We spent approximately an hour reading the plaques and paying our respects. There are roughly 10 free parking spaces at the entrance of the memorial. If you, like us, get turned around due to construction just keep driving towards the very large white wall that is the entrance (behind lot 51.) See more..
My wife and I love all the sculptures and statues in the U.S. In Fort Stockton, Texas is a giant road runner. There is a place to park off the road across the street from it, a nondescript dirt pullout on E. Railroad Avenue. Across highway 285 is the visitors center, and one block south is the Old Fort Cemetery.See more..
After visiting the Buddy Holly Center, this is an easy stroll across the street. It’s a beautiful sculpture of Buddy Holly as well as the Texas Wall of Fame. The area has a large beautiful grass field were they hold local events. Dogs are permitted here and there are bags for dog waste. We really didn’t recognize names on the wall, but it was chilly and windy that day and we didn’t spend tons of time studying it. It’s a very fitting memorial to people and very convenient; right off the freeway.See more..

4.5Fannin Memorial Monument(46 reviews) - a sad and brutal story Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
here is a large memorial to Jim Fannin and his men. Fannin and his men had captured the Presidio at Goliad very early during the Texas Revolution and renamed it Fort Defiance. Riders from the Alamo came to get help but Fannin for various reasons could never get there so retreated back to the Presidio. Finally on orders from Sam Houston to abandon Goliad Fannin waited to long and was caught on the road at Coleto Creek where a battle ensued with troops under Gen Urrea.. The Mexicans captured about 400 Texians and marched them back to Goliad where Urrea was ordered by Santa Ana to show no quarter to the Texians although Gen Urrea pleaded for their mercy. The captured Texians were marched outside of town and lined up and shot. Their bodies were then piled and set afire by burned little. The people of Goliad retrieved the bodies and placed them in this mass grave atop which now sits the Fannin Memorial.See more..
4.5Treue Der Union Monument(35 reviews) - Don't Drive Past This...It's a Little-Known (But Important) Incident Monuments & Statues
The bitter rivalry between "North" and "South" during the Civil War was played out when a group was slaughtered for having differing views from others. There's more to the story than that, but stopping by this monument is a moving experience and one worth making time for. The violence should not be forgotten. You don't have to care about history to understand that passion for an idea can be deadly.See more..

4.59/11 Flight Crew Memorial(32 reviews) - How can it be less than 5 Stars Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
9/11 is our Peral Harbor and this memorial is dedicated to the first casualties of the war on terror. I was an active airline Captain at the time and my wife was a flight attendant. We all knew someone on those four flights. This is a wonderful reminder in an age when social studies and our world defense of freedom are not being taught. It is cliche, but freedom is not free and these flight crew members and first responders gave their full measure in defense of our freedoms. NEVER FORGET!! Anything less than 5 stars shows a lack of respect and understanding.See more..

Being a veteran myself, I am always interested in visiting any memorials that have been established. I knew nothing about Camp Fannin but the informational markers were very informative. Since you can not park close to the monument, it is nice to have a nice area to sit down. The monument is close to the corner of one busy busy road and a neighborhood street. There is a sidewalk and one of us used a walker with wheels. Slightly up hill but we made it. The Roman soldier statue seated in front of Mr Reagan once had a sword. The sword is over in the Museum of East Texas. I’m glad we went there first or we wouldn’t have known about the sword. See more..
