Pecos Boot Trail

We drove to all but 2 of the painted boot statues in Pecos using the map we created from the the Pecos Texas website. The website has a great display of the boots. There were 2 listed that we were unable to find but the others were very visible. The 2 at the West of the Pecos Museum were especially beautiful.

    Gems in Pecos
My wife and I love all the statues and sculptures in towns all over the U.S. Many are location themed, such as these, next to the Greyhound station at First and highway 285 parking lot. Next to the parking lot are some 6 to 7 foot boots themed to Pecos. Across from it is a small park with a statue of the Southwestern legend Pecos Bill. He is to the Southwest what Paul Bunyan is to northern Minnesota and Maine. He is a bigger than life figure captured in a statue of him riding a dust devil holding onto a rattlesnake. The (bronze?) statue is about the same height as the boots. Both are visible from highway 285, and they might be new additions, since they show up on street level views from 285 on Google Maps, but not on First St. views. Easy to check them out. There is a parking lot right next to them.

fun thing to do before continuing on to Dallas...
I was so glad that I looked up where Pecos is about, what there is to do for our less than 24 hour stay. We really enjoyed walking around looking for all the western boots. We did drive to some that were pretty far apart from one another but quite a few were walking distance. I was really looking forward to seeing the Rodeo Boots apparently there are two of them but we looked and looked and looked for them at the rodeo grounds and never could find them. Even looked where the map said they were but they were not there. Bummer. Hopefully when we pass through Pecos again they will be there so I can complete the collection. :)
