We were greeted immediately. The guy doing our wine tasting was very knowledgeable and lots of fun. There was a live band playing popular songs and people were having a good time. We came for a tasting, no reservations required. They offer 6 wines for $20. We each selected 6 different wines so by sharing were able to try 12. The couple next to us split a tasting which is also a great idea. There aren’t any crackers, bread or water offered while tasting so keep that in mind. Because we tasted 12 wines we wound several we liked and purchased 6 bottles. By purchasing 6, we saved 10% plus a credit on one tasting ($20). We purchased one glass of wine to share to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful property and view. Many people just came, purchased a bottle of wine and sat outside to enjoy. We got to keep the stemless glass that came with the glass of wine purchase with their logo on it. It was late afternoon on a Saturday and only waited 5 minutes to get in for tasting and still plenty of space outside to sit. This was my second visit. Solid red wine portfolio - very complex and flavorful wines. Definitely warm weather grapes, like most wineries in TX, so you have to like that (I do). I like that they stock- and taste - multiple vintages of the same varietal. (The first time I came they had a 2015 and 2016 petit sirah; this time it was a 2018 and 2019 viognier). Fun to taste the same vines in different weather conditions. I can see why some reviewers mention bad service. It’s not a large place and I am sure that if a big group comes in or something they might get overwhelmed. But if you aren’t in a hurry and just sit back and relax, the service is really fine. All the servers are cheerful and appreciative of your business and will take time to talk about the wines. Really a great place. Spicewood Vineyards is somewhat out of the way, though not very far from Austin. Still, the fact that we rarely drove nearby on our way to the Hill Country left it as a winery we needed to visit. And yesterday we finally got there. I knew they made good wines but I had never tasted their full slate of wines and I am pleased to report that the wines are consistently well made and appealing - and among the better wines in the state. Bottle prices are reasonable and have good QPR (quality/price ratio). The staff is friendly and personable. My husband and I booked the private tour and tasting this Saturday and it did not disappoint! Ron did an amazing job at teaching us about the process of making their wine and showing us their facilities. He even got me to venture out and try new wines and learn more about what I like and dont like. Our tour finished with 6 wine tastings and a charcuterie board that was delicious. We then stayed and split the French dip and fries. Everything was so good! We are already planning to bring family back and we joined there wine club!! They HAVE AMAZING WINE!!
