Perissos Vineyards, Texas, United States

4.5 (119 reviews) Wednesday: Spent Ranking #3 in Burnet Wineries & Vineyards

My favorite winery in Texas, maybe anywhere

This was my second visit. Solid red wine portfolio - very complex and flavorful wines. Definitely warm weather grapes, like most wineries in TX, so you have to like that (I do). I like that they stock- and taste - multiple vintages of the same varietal. (The first time I came they had a 2015 and 2016 petit sirah; this time it was a 2018 and 2019 viognier). Fun to taste the same vines in different weather conditions. I can see why some reviewers mention bad service. It’s not a large place and I am sure that if a big group comes in or something they might get overwhelmed. But if you aren’t in a hurry and just sit back and relax, the service is really fine. All the servers are cheerful and appreciative of your business and will take time to talk about the wines. Really a great place. I like that it is off the beaten path, but even if I didn’t I would still think it is worth the drive. Great job Perissos!

    Their name says it all
We had an excellent wine tasting experience in a lovely setting. The Picpoul Blanc was a surprise favorite. I was unacquainted with this varietal and Perissos produced an excellent example. The Portejas and Montepulciano were also favorites. We joined the club & will continue to enjoy these wines. Don’t leave the area without checking out this vineyard. I love the story behind their name - “exceeding abundantly, beyond what is expected, imagined, or hoped for.”

    A Memorable Experience Every Visit
We have been to Perissos Winery several times and each time it is delightful. The drive out to the winery is very memorable, especially during bluebonnet season in the spring. Upon arrival, the buildings, vines and location are very reminiscent of Tuscany. They have a lovely wine tasting room, as well as outside seating. The outside seating provides a lovely view of the gentle rolling hills. Their wines are really incomparable, not only to other Texas wines, but also any California wines. In fact, we had one of their bottles of a 2015 vintage red to accompany lamb chops with Christmas dinner this past December. That bottle of wine was one of the best bottles of wine we've ever had, including the wines we've had in Italy, France and Germany. They use their own homegrown grapes nearly exclusively, with a few exceptions. Any time we are driving in that area, we make a point of taking time to stop by.
