5.0The Grove(166 reviews) - Wonderful, historic home full of love and ghost stories Historic Sites • Ghost Towns
A one-hour tour of one of Jefferson's most historic - and haunted - locations. The Grove is an 1861 home that uniquely mirrors the history of the riverport city... and the ghost stories there go back over 100 years. The history of the home is fascinating; it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. Along with the history, though, you'll hear ghost stories from the owners and find out just what it's like to live in a haunted home. Come visit The Grove for a peek into Jefferson's past... and a few residents who may still be hanging around!See more..
Stopped off here on a whim one day. I have driven past the sign at the turn off for years, and always wanted to visit. So glad we did. The town was very neat to roam around. George the owner and visionary has spent a lot of time creating a unique place, he’s also a damn good cook ;) The burgers were awesome as well as the ladies behind the counter Mary and Mel. What a neat place to have lunch, we will be back! There’s no entrance fee, which is unusual for this type of attraction. Just goes to show they enjoy what they do.See more..
4.0Helena(13 reviews) - ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING! Even though closed due to the virus, you can still look over the fencer Ghost Towns
If you like history and old buildings, you will like Old Helena, even though during the pandemic you can't enter the grounds. It is located only a few miles north of Karnes City Courthouse, and is definitely worth stopping. The caretakers are very nice and friendly - they saw us walking around the fence line and taking photos, so they came to visit behind the fence, and handed us a brochure. You can walk around the fence line though, and you are able to look into the windows of the John Ruckman house in the back (official address of John Ruckman House is 526 County Road 300).See more..
3.0Glen Rio Ghost Town(4 reviews) - Unique Ghost town Points of Interest & Landmarks • Ghost Towns
Really don't understand previous comments. The town is actually on the Texas-New Mexico border, very accessible and no problems walking around the old buildings, You can tell it was once very active and was trying to survive being bypassed by Interstate 40. There was what looked like a very old bank or post office and a cafe and motel and a few other buildings. I believe it is well worth the approx. 1 mile detour off I-40 and provides the photographer with some really good pictures.See more..

3.0Normanna Texas(1 review) - The main reason to go here is to get to the Medio Bridge a little to the west off "Main" Street Architectural Buildings • Bridges • Ghost Towns
We had read about the old Medio Bridge, and the only thing we knew was that it was in Normanna, just north of Beeville. The Bridge is worth seeing if you like old bridges like we do. It is closed to all traffic, vehicle or foot, but you can walk right up to it for a close lookSee more..
