4.5Japanese Tea Gardens(1.887 reviews) - Did not expect it to be that good Spent 1-2 hours Theaters • Gardens
Originally a rock quarry, part of the tea garden came from a donation by George W. Brackenridge and another section from Emma Koehler. In 1915 Ray Lambert, city parks commissioner, thought it would make a nice location for a lily pond. Ultimately, it grew to become a tea garden. The latest renovations began in 2007 and cost about $1.6 million, compared with the $7,000 Lambert originally spent to open the park. It is a Registered Texas Historic Landmark and on the National Register of Historic Places.See more..

4.5Fort Worth Japanese Garden(318 reviews) - Had fun feeding the fish and turtles Sunday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Gardens
We visited this garden along with the Botanic Gardens. I'm not sure you can do it by itself so you will have to pay for the other tour and see it near the end of the other garden. That being said, the Japanese garden was my favorite part of the garden tour. It has a lot of water and you can spend time feeding the fish. When you pay for the Botanic gardens make sure you purchase bags of fish food since they do not have machines to purchase them in the garden. We purchased the large bags and my kids spent almost an hour feeding the fish and turtles - this was the highlight of their garden experience. They also had some brown water snakes swimming around in the water which was fun to watch (they never came close to the shore so you don't have to be worried that they will get too close). If you come to the Botanic Gardens plan to spend most of your time in the Japanese Garden.See more..

4.5The International Waterlily Collection(247 reviews) - Great stop for our Texas Road Trip Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 1-2 hours Parks • Gardens • Scenic Walking Areas
Decided to pay an ole visit on our trip to San Angelo to visit some friends who had bought their dream ranch. This was west of downtown on the corner of Park St and Beauregard. It was free to the public and offered free parallel parking. The beautiful pools of so many varieties of water lilies and lovely terraced flower beds were a visual delight. The bluebonnets provide photo opportunities similar to Texas’ hill country. It was not crowded and had spots to buy snacks and refreshments. Highly recommend if you’re in the San Angelo areaSee more..
4.5Mayfield Park(241 reviews) - So cool - peacocks!! Sunday: 5:00 AM - 10:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Parks • Gardens
We came across Mayfield Park by accident on our way to Mt. Bonnel. I am so glad we stopped. It is a little park with short walking paths. Peacocks roam free. We were able to see a couple of the males show their feathers. Hearing the peacocks all talk to each other was really cool too. It's free!See more..
This magnificent garden is walkable, beautiful, and full of magical displays. The succulents are outstanding, and the palm-tree-filled arboretum with ducks just begged us to stay. In late Oct, flowers were still in their last bloom, and fall displays were everywhere. The oriental gardens are beautiful, and I later discovered that friends of mine had married there. There is peace, color, and care in every detail here, and we agree; this is not only an Amarillo gem but one of our favorite gardens we've visited.See more..
I stopped by this gem not far from the Gaylord. There were only a few cars in the parking lot during my visit which meant I could enjoy it even more. I enjoyed a peaceful morning walk on a bright and sunny day along a paved sidewalk throughout the beautifully landscaped garden. A prominent sculpture greets you at the entrance. There is bench seating throughout. Children can enjoy the playground as well. I recommend this park to enjoy the great outdoors.See more..
Clark Gardens Botanical Park welcomes visitors all year long. The breathtaking 35 acre oasis awakens the senses, stirs the spirit and relaxes the mind. From the first spring blossoms to the colorful fall and into the stillness of winter there is a sense of magic. Wheelchair accessible pathways wind through lavish ribbons of color and fragrance. Waterfalls sparkle in the sunlight splashing down to ponds and lakes where black and white swans, along with other waterfowl, glide in the shimmering waters. You may see peacocks strutting, or get a glimpse of blue herons or great egrets swooping down, their huge wingspans casting shadows over the lakes.See more..
We enjoyed strolling through the small but lovely gardens on a rainy afternoon. I think the mist added to the fanciful beauty. When you pay the small admittance fee, ask for the garden guide handout so you'll understand what you're seeing. Be sure to look for quirky things all over. (Actually, before you go, look up the gardens online and read the history. Knowing what the gardens have been through will add to your joy of seeing the beauty today.) If a visitor is in a rush, 30 minutes will do to see the grounds, but if you want to really enjoy what you're seeing . . . well, that could take as long as you have plus another visit! See more..

4.5National Butterfly Center(102 reviews) - Very nicely maintained gardens Sunday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Gardens
The National Butterfly Center is the pilot project of the North American Butterfly Association (NABA), a nonprofit organization committed to environmental conservation and education. It is located in Mission, Texas, because the Rio Grande Valley is home to the greatest volume and variety of butterflies species in the United States. Just 10 years ago, this 100-acre parcel of land along the banks of the Rio Grande River was a commercial onion field. Today, it is the largest botanical garden in the United States focused on propagating native plants for pollinators in formal gardens and wildscapes. This nature preserve contains a Hackberry Forest and several species of endangered plants and animals. Expect season variations and changes subject to rainfall, temperatures, etc. THE NATIONAL BUTTERFLY CENTER IS NOT A BUTTERFLY HOUSE. All wildlife found in the NABA Section of the Lower Rio Grande Wildlife Conservation Area, which includes a National Wildlife Refuge tract and Bentsen-RGV State Park, is free-roaming. The National Butterfly Center features walking trails and two birding areas, as well as a photography blind. Our butterfly and bird lists may be found on our website. PLEASE NOTE: Butterflies prefer sunny days, with temperatures above 70 degrees, so days like this are the best for enjoying the wild, free-flying butterflies. The peak of butterfly season normally occurs in late October/early November, and may continue until the first prolonged cold snap. To see what's happening now, check our Facebook page for photos, programs, and other announcements, or look under the tab 'IN THE NEWS' on our website. Handicapped parking available, with many accessible areas.See more..

4.5East Texas Arboretum(46 reviews) - Stopped on a whim Sunday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Parks • Gardens
One hundred acres of wooded beauty, trees, flowers, and wildlife await your discovery at the East Texas Arboretum. The forest appears to come alive as you meander along two miles of woodland trails. Camouflaged frogs, insects, and even deer often scurry away as you pass. Make your way along winding, spring-fed streams connected by a 115-foot suspension bridge. Experience life in early Henderson County at the historic Wofford House Museum. Built in 1850, the home was relocated to the arboretum several years ago. It now stands as a reminder of early pioneer days complete with period furnishings, memorabilia, and a seasonal garden. I can't recommend this gorgeous cemetery and gardens enough. Our Lady of the Rosary is a beautiful, peaceful, and well-cared for place. It is host to myriad gorgeous flowers and is a restful place for loved ones. The arboretum is a peaceful place to walk around and enjoy looking at the gardens. There are plants blooming with flowers practically year round. The tulips and daffodils start in March and the rest of the garden puts on a show until the first winter blast of cold air, often late December. There is currently about 1 mile of trails through the gardens, with many benches along the way to rest and reflect on the beauty of nature. 5.0Elizabeth Milburn Park(1 review) - A great park with something for everyone! Parks • Gardens • Playgrounds
We visited Milburn Park for a concert at the Pavilion. Milburn Park is a multi-use park consisting of 42 acres of land. Inside the park is the Elizabeth Milburn Pool, which has multiple pools, swimming races, lifeguards, etc. There is a daily fee to enter the pool for a day of swimming. There is also a community garden where residents can rent a space to grow vegetables. The park has soccer fields and hosts numerous youth soccer games. It also has a covered basketball court which is also used as a shelter for community concerts from time to time. In the spring and fall the park hosts movie nights. It is the home of the annual Cedar Park fourth of July festival and fireworks show. The Pavilion where we visited is a large, covered picnic area with multiple picnic tables and barbecue grills. There are other smaller barbecue areas around the park as well. Next to the Pavilion, which can be rented for events, there are sand volleyball courts. The park has a walking/running trail about a mile in length. Towards the south end of the park is a small fenced in cemetery that was there before the park was created. I have enjoyed the park, visited the pool and athletic fields many times as well as attended various events at the park. It is a great asset to the city and a wonderful place to visit.See more..
4.0Tocquigny's Green Gate Garden Center(1 review) - Very nice zone 9 garden center Spent 1-2 hours Gardens For avid gardeners, it is always great to know of a good place to pick up plants that easily adapt to the gardening zone of the city you are visiting. It is even better if they have some plants you have never seen! This one is a very large operation that grows its' own plants for a huge number of greenhouses (over 40). The sales area is good sized, but the stock is not well marked with the names of the plants--you have to ask. The good news is that the prices are reasonable and they have depth in all the stock. The staff is helpful, but are difficult to find. They have a very large area devoted to succulents--ones I had not seen. They can help to identify plants that will grow in neighboring zones and with advice for over wintering. The plants are available in different sizes, which makes it easy to get them home! Our friends have used them for years and we will keep them in mind for future purchases. Parking is a little limited and loading is a little awkward, but not a real problem. The double layer carts are really a convenient way to shop if you are buying multiple plants. The indoor shop has a big selection of seeds and many nice garden objects.See more..
