So many stories come to life in this beautiful garden for young children and families

The Adamson-Spalding Storybook Garden is located on the grounds of the Abilene Convention Center, which is owned by the city. The garden was created by funds raised by the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council, a division of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce. The garden is home to pieces of the council's Storybook Sculpture Project, which are characters brought to life from the pages of children's illustrated books. The garden is free to explore and lit at night.

    Adamson-Spalding Storybook Garden
My husband and I walked through this sculpture garden with storybook sculptures and enjoyed it very much. We especially liked the sculptures of the 3 pigs and the big bad wolf. There were 9 groupings of sculptures depicting various storybooks including the Three Kittens, Wilbur from Charlotte's Web, The Three Bears, Mr. Tiger, Otis the Tractor, and a dinosaur representing 'How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night? The sculptures were wonderful and the interpretive signs and plaques were very helpful. A delightful place!

Well done trip down memory lane
Fun for everyone, and partially shaded, which was welcome on the 100 degree day of our visit. The path winds around the convention center and features sculptures depicting scenes from both classic and more recent children's literature. Some are simply character statues and others have been incorporated into small scenes. The artwork is well done and worth a stop. Kids and adults alike will enjoy.
