4.5Main Street(2.054 reviews) - Great time during the holidays Points of Interest & Landmarks
My husband and I have been to Fredericksburg many times. On this trip, we went to see the holiday lights on Main Street. Those lights were ok. The lights in the Marktplatz along Main Street were super. We arrived at the Marktplatz about 30 minutes before sundown and enjoyed walking through the gardens. An ice rink was setup for ice skaters. There was a small charge for skating. From 6 pm to 6:10 pm, the story of Fredericksburg was told on speakers then 3 Christmas carols. Next, there was a count down 10 to 1 and the Marktplatz was lite with lights. I love the 26-foot tall wooden German Christmas Pyramid that was made in Germany. Main Street has lots of very interesting shops with one of a kind items. So much fun.See more..

4.5Alamo Plaza(1.227 reviews) - Order Free Timed Tickets. If You Struggle to Stand in the Heat, Advance Reading will Enhance Your Experience! Points of Interest & Landmarks
Be sure to order free timed tickets in advance. Our family spent roughly 20 minutes in the small but historically significant church. The timed system worked nicely to manage the # of people inside (creating a peaceful, reverent environment). During our visit there was an historical encampment behind the church and a film showing under a covered area at the very back of the property. Unfortunately, due to warm temperatures and a lack of seating, our family (all >60yo) was unable to further enhance our learning of the historical events which took place on this site :( We hope that the planned renovations will include an air-conditioned visitors center!See more..

4.0Prada Marfa(297 reviews) - The Best Roadside Art and First Stop of our Spring Break Trip Points of Interest & Landmarks
If you find yourself on Hwy 90 in West Texas, this is a great piece of public art that will give you an opportunity to stretch your legs. In the middle of the Chihuahuan desert, is a public art display in the form of a retail building with the 2005 Prada collection of shoes and purses on display. Over the last 50 years, Marfa has become an art oasis in the desert and the Prada is one of its must sees. This was the first thing we did on our 5 couple spring break visiting 5 National parks and we all enjoyed. We passed it twice and both times, it was full of visitors. The building is perfect for pictures. In addition the fence that surrounds display as doubled as a places for lovers to seal their love with a lock. However, the real art is the way you use the building to capture your own photos. It could just be the isolation; however, it is probably the best streetside artwork I've had ever seen. Again you simply need to stop and enjoy.See more..
4.5New Braunfels(280 reviews) - Watch Othello! Sunday: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
Enjoyed the performance of “Othello” put on by Director Bridget Gates - performed at the Landa Slab Dance Park - and thought this free community experience was very enjoyable especially during COVID were people are hesitant to visit bars and restaurants. 3.5Branch Davidian Memorial Park(207 reviews) - Piece of sad history Sunday: 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
Very far out from town. The pool is left and the school bus that they used as a bunker. The house that the ATF agents used to spy on the branch davidians is still there across the street. There is a new church that is built on the foundation of the compound. Im not sure if you can go in the church or not- I didn't try .Didn't see anyone working there. Several other families were out there looking around. Was hesitant to go in bc the sign says private property but you can. In fact they want people to go out there and learn the story about what happened to them and by who. They have pamphlets in a box on the box of the church with information to take.See more..

4.5Bonfire Memorial(183 reviews) - Powerful and humbling memorial Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues • Scenic Walking Areas
What a well thought out memorial with each detail representing the tradition, loss of life and spirit of the Aggie pride. The free booklet offered in the parking lot gives an overview of the history behind the bonfires and describes each detail of the memorial. We spent approximately an hour reading the plaques and paying our respects. There are roughly 10 free parking spaces at the entrance of the memorial. If you, like us, get turned around due to construction just keep driving towards the very large white wall that is the entrance (behind lot 51.) See more..
4.5Glass Restrooms(174 reviews) - Who would have thunk? Points of Interest & Landmarks
This is such an unusual experience and definitely worth the 2-3 mile drive off the interstate. The are 2 bathroom “boxes” which set on the court square. The walls are made of 2 way mirrors. From the outside you see mirrors all the way around and from the inside you can see everything outside around you. Does feel a bit awkward but pretty cool. What makes them even better is that they set on a lovely court square which has been made into a Veteran’s Memorial Park. It has great statues and the grounds are kept very nicely. Also, the courthouse is gorgeous and historical. And, across the street are 2 corner cafes with outdoor seating. Just a charming small town. We hope to have another opportunity to stop here again someday.See more..
This was a fun little stop. I’ll admit, the crater is a little underwhelming since it’s mostly filled with dust and dirt at this point. The museum has a great little collection of meteorites from all over and some very interesting info posted. Only 2 miles off the interstate as well. See more..
An alert TA member pointed out an error in my post on this incredible structure. It is a great example of the H H Richardson Romanesque architecture that was NOT done by the master, for whom the the style is named--a very rare event. I said the he was the architect, but the fact is that J Gordon Riley actually designed it in the late 1890's. He was a real disciple of Richardson and is credited in building numerous wonderful buildings. There are a number of courthouses in Texas that are examples of his creativity. For those interested in his works, you can Google him and work out a plan to visit/view them. It is wise to call in advance to secure the hours the buildings will be open. It is a shame to come this far and to only see the outside of these structures. The jury rooms, woodwork, floors, and other interior details are works of art in their own right.See more..
4.0Slug Bug Ranch(123 reviews) - Unexpected and feels abandoned - very cool Points of Interest & Landmarks
This was just a crazy find - we had never heard of it and just saw it as we were driving by. You have to drive around a shuttered motel (it looks like it is being renovated) and walk to a few abandoned buildings and a row of vw bugs are propped up and painted like the Cadillac ranch. The buildings are all spray painted as well - it’s very organic feeling and cool No one selling paint at this site- so bring your own I guess See more..

4.5Paris Town Square(96 reviews) - Antiques, Antiques, Antiques Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
We enjoyed shopping the town square. We went in about 5 antique stores. Each one was really large and had lots of potential finds depending on what you’re into. Our favorite was the Remember When shop, which was based largely around toys and comic book memorabilia. We arrived on a Saturday around 3pm, and several places had already closed, including a bakery and gift shop. Some of the buildings were empty although their storefronts were staged. Since it was too early for dinner, our options were pretty much limited to antique shopping, which we did have fun doing.See more..
When we're traveling, we always like to find something historical to visit. We were unable to visit inside due to the 4th of July holiday, but it was very interesting to hear the story behind the "World's Smallest Scraper" from a local. 4.0Second Amendment Cowboy(78 reviews) - Get Yourself A Gun Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
Enormous cowboy statue and decent gift shop. A real celebration of the fact that, thanks to George Washington, you have the right to buy as big a gun as you like at a gun fair with little or no check on who you are. You need this only for self-protection and of course there’s absolutely no connection whatsoever between this and all the mass shootings in the USA. That’s a figment of the left-wing liberal media’s imagination. Bang, bang!See more..
The whole park was nicely kept, with the tasteful and extremely respectful war memorials at one end and large chess / checker boards on the other side with the magnificent glass restrooms. Be sure to walk around and read the plaques and benches and look at the sculptures. Everything is purposeful to remind us of the men and women who serve in the military. See more..

4.0Old Baldy(70 reviews) - Wow! Best views of the Hill country!! Points of Interest & Landmarks
We started out at a fairly fast pace and then quickly realized we needed to slow down. Over 200 steps but all well worth it! Can't believe we had not heard of it on our many previous trips... we will be back!See more..
I was an azalea belle and a Tyler ambassador. I loved my job! The azalea’s are absolutely beautiful and I think everyone in the world should see them. The Pyron home has the most beautiful garden and Mrs. Pyron is the sweetest lady. Overall, the experience is amazing, I could be in that garden forever. I only wish that they would bring back the Azalea belles. The beautiful dresses would make so many people smile and they loved taking photos. Hopefully one day, the Azalea Belles will return.See more..
5.0Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan Del Valle(64 reviews) - A Great Affection for Jesus and Mary in Our Lady of San Juan Del Valle Sunday: 6:00 AM - 8:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Churches & Cathedrals
It was my first visit to San Juan as I had always desired to go and pray there. I could see in the pilgrims attending Mass that they are some of the most devout Catholics. I absolutely loved the Mass when they had musicians playing and singing in the style of the Hispanic people. I also attended a Mariachi concert there one evening that was so nice. In the Basilica there is a Eucharistic Adoration room, a Room of Candles to offer for special intentions and the Room of Miracles to pray in front of about 16 different Statues of different Saints and Jesus and Mary, to ask for Their Intercession. On the outside is the Way of the Cross with life-size bronze statues depicting each station. I noticed several times different pilgrims embracing Jesus and Mary so as to comfort Jesus and Mary on this painful road to Calvary which was quite touching to see and experience this feeling of affection they have. It was a most meaningful trip for me to begin this year. Gracias !See more..

3.5Huge Pair of Legs(62 reviews) - Cheesy and out in pasture Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
This attraction may have been fun at one time (evidenced by the graffiti on the “legs” )but now just a cheesy attraction fenced off from visitors. A bit hard to find and nothing to read about the history of the attraction. But if one has 15-20 minutes to detour off I27 then a photo might make a neat memory. Cannot understand why an hour is suggested for this attraction.See more..
4.5Fayette County Courthouse(58 reviews) - This is a good reason to stop in La Grange Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
You can't miss seeing this wonderful J R Gordon structure because it is in the center of the town square. It is an active courthouse that you can self tour. 4.5The Regency Suspension Bridge(57 reviews) - Well worth the drive to be able to walk across this 1939 suspension bridge Points of Interest & Landmarks • Bridges
Everyone who watches Texas Country Reporter (as we regularly do) will enjoy walking across the bridge used for the show's opening. We approved from the north of San Saba and had to drive a few miles on a caliche road in order to reach the bridge, but the road was not bad at all (we were expecting lots of loose gravel, but that was not the case). Because of structural issues, the bridge has been closed to traffic but it is open for walking (we were there in mid-December). If you are near Gatesville or San Saba, it is worth the drive to experience this 1939 suspension bridge, one of the last of its kind in Texas.See more..
4.5Boquillas Crossing Port of Entry(54 reviews) - Interesting way to visit another country Sunday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
This was our first trip to Mexico. Boquillas is a very small isolated village, but the people were friendly and helpful. The US Border Patrol lady was very friendly and helpful. Ir was a short walk down to the river where a boat will come across to row you to the Mexican side. You can ride a burro up to the village but we chose a pickup truck. The driver was friendly and showed us the town before grabbing a bite of guac and salsa at Jose Falcon's restaurant. Views were great from the patio. Took the boat back across the Rio Grande and had no problem getting back through the Port of Entry. Of course, you do need your passport. Be sure to take cash. $5 round trip across the river and $10 a person for a truck ride to the village.See more..
