Slug Bug Ranch, Texas, United States

Unexpected and feels abandoned - very cool

This was just a crazy find - we had never heard of it and just saw it as we were driving by. You have to drive around a shuttered motel (it looks like it is being renovated) and walk to a few abandoned buildings and a row of vw bugs are propped up and painted like the Cadillac ranch. The buildings are all spray painted as well - it’s very organic feeling and cool No one selling paint at this site- so bring your own I guess

If You Liked the Cadillac Ranch, Try the Bug Ranch
The Bug Ranch is conveniently located off the Panhandle/Conway, TX exit along Highway 40. It is easily accessible with parking room. It is a free attraction. Like the Cadillac Ranch, Bug Ranch has about a half dozen partially buried or abandoned VW Beetles (Slug Bugs). The cars have been decorated by visitors with spray paint and if you are so inclined and prepared, you can also add your contributions to the cars. There are also some nearby abandoned buildings that can be decorated as well. The colorful cars and buildings made for some really fun pictures. It is definitely worth a stop if you like to check off quirky roadside attractions as you travel.

    Painted Bugs
This was a very quirky place to visit. It is right off the freeway, and best of all, free. People left their paint cans on a ledge at the building that is there, much neater than at Cadillac Ranch where the cans and lids were all over the place. If someone is in the area, it’s a neat place to stop, but I wouldn’t go too far out of my way to see it.
