Short but beautiful stretch of road

Wow this was a really cool drive. It went by really fast! Views from either side of the road of the rolling hill country and steep drop offs. It’s hard to pay attention, so take a moment to soak it in at the picnic area

    Cautious Drive
Being a native Texan I have never driven on this stretch of road but have heard it mentioned many times. While visiting in Wimberley I went from the square on Hwy. 12 towards San Marcos and then several miles out I saw the sign for Hwy. 32 and decided to take it to cut across to Hwy. 281. This stretch is approximately 30 miles and a two lane road with many windy twists. There are some lovely views but if you are driving you definitely want to keep you eyes on the road as large trucks also use this cut through and the road is narrow with very little shoulder. There is an area to pull off that has picnic tables and a beautiful view of the land. I also noticed several roads going off of this highway towards Canyon Lake and other locals. Then once at Hwy. 281 there is a stop sign and flashing red light, not a complete signal light so you have to yield to the very busy traffic on 281. You can go to the middle where there is a yield sign and best to yield because there is a slight crest and it is tricky to see oncoming traffic well. But is was a nice adventure and didn't have to drive through Blanco coming back from Wimberley.

    Not worth an intentional drive.
As a passenger I could see the valleys and scenery. The picnic turnout area doesn’t have good views at all and the fence does have a lot of “stuff” put on it, more like graffiti to me. Not worth an effort to drive it, we did it from Canyon Lake to Wimberley by chance.
