A bit of England

Neolithic Britons (or nature-worshiping Druids or space aliens, depending on who you listen to) began assembling Stonehenge on the plains of Salisbury, England more than 5000 years ago. Its original purpose is still under debate ... but there is no mystery (or purpose, really) behind the Texas Hill Country's version. Stonehenge II was created as an art project by the late Al Shepperd, a Hill Country Arts Foundation patron, and his neighbor Doug Hill more than 20 years ago on Shepperd's land in nearby Hunt, Texas. Stonehenge II It took nine months to build and is 90 percent the height and 60 percent the width as the original. Giving free range to his fanciful notion, Shepperd added two 13-foot Easter Island head replicas for good measure. After Shepperd's death, the megalithic circle along with its Easter Island sidekicks needed a new home. In an effort to preserve this true Texas landmark, the sculptures were relocated stone-by-stone to their final resting place beside the Guadalupe River on the campus of the Hill Country Arts Foundation.

Stop by to explore the art work if you are already in the area
Not bad. The place is smaller than I thought it would be but big enough for what it provides. There are several sculptures made by local artists that are quite a scene and my favorite part. The whole place is an open museum really. The Stonehenge replica was less impressive to me, but still a true work of art. We walked around the whole area down to the river basin. Unfortunately we did not get to see any of the shows they offer. We were staying in San Antonio and decided to drive there for pics really. I would say it was worthwhile for me because I like to experience things in person and see everything there is to see but think it is a must stop if you are already in the area.

    Just Ok
Not a whole lot going on, tho to be fair we visit during the pandemic so some activities were not in place. You can see this place in 10 mins, including the art center. We did go back to watch the live theatre show which the weather was great and the show was cheesy, not worth the money. But it goes to a cause so that was ok. I can say I went.....not sure if I would make this a focal point of a trip tho.
