Historic Courthouse - Box-Shaped
The historic courthouse was erected in 1886 and stands next to the Leon County Jail on the square. A misunderstanding between county commissioners and the contractor resulted in the cost being doubled that of the estimate. The 1858 Courthouse burned in 1886 and was replaced. The courthouse was built during the “golden age” of courthouse construction when building were shaped like a box-shaped building and lacked much of the grand features of other Texas county courthouses as we was in neighborngWaxahachie. Only the 1886 courthouse is still standing. The front side of the Courthouse faces Saint Mary's

Beautiful 1856 historic courthouse and 1913 jail house
My husband and I walked around the 1856 Leon County Historic Courthouse and 1913 jail house on the square. Both are beautiful and worth a short walk around.
