Fascinating view back in time and a lovely bridge
The Waco Suspension Bridge is the oldest Suspension Bridge still standing in Texas. Built it 1870, it was the first bridge across the Brazos River. This stunning bridge was built with cables supplied from John Roebling's firm, which built the Brooklyn Bridge. Today, it is a pedestrian-only bridge and is a wonderful place to watch the river roll by.

Fascinating view back in time and a lovely bridge
A very nice walking bridge across the Brazos River that was built where the cattle used to cross the Brazos on the old Chisholm Trail headed north to market. The "Branding the Brazos" Sculpture - a herd of 25 heroic-sized black bronze Texas longhorns, mounted cowboys and vaqueros - leads up to the bridge. Definitely worth the time to wander around these statues and admire the design of the walking bridge which is said to be the precursor to the Brooklyn Bridge in NYC.

Nice View of the Brazos River and Huge Sculptures
We found this bridge by accident as we were driving to our hotel. This old suspension bridge was originally built to allow cattle herds to cross the Brazos safely. Today there are huge metal sculptures of cattle and cowboys at the entrance to the bridge and you can walk out for good views of the river.
