Fascinating Museum

The Texas Civil War Museum is not only the largest civil war museum west of the Mississippi but it also houses one of the most comprehensive collections of Civil War artifacts in the country, including the largest number of historical Texas battle flags in the state. The museum is also home to the Judy Richey Victorian Dress collection.

    A Civil War Must !
This review is actually long overdue. I went there last June during a long driving trip to visit family and see a lot of historical sites. This is a really nice museum. A great surprise as to just how nice it is. The quality of the exhibits is first rate. They have collection of civil War uniforms that you will not find anywhere else; and a large collection of period dresses that the ladies should really enjoy. So very different from today. The gentleman working in the front store could not have been nicer and very inexpensive. If you're into the Civil War this is a must.

Who knew! So many excellent exhibits!
This seemingly small museum (based on the antebellum front, actually extends quite a ways back from the street. This means it is much more like the sizes of a warehouse divided into a large number of exhibits! Plan to spend over hour to see everything. This will not be a quick trip. I can attest that their website is 100% accurate. Items on exhibit include military collections, domestic objects and historic flags, personal items and artifacts, and postwar Victorian attire. The Victorian clothing was amazing and much of it looked as if it was in excellent condition - as if I could pull it off the mannequin and put it on even now, if only my waist was as small as a Victorian woman's.
