Beautiful!

The Old Blanco County Courthouse was built in 1885. It was only used as a courthouse for 4 short years. The County Seat moved to Johnson City in 1889. The Old Blanco County Courthouse is owned by The Old Blanco County Courthouse Preservation Society, a 501 (c) (3). The mission of the O.B.C.C.P.S. is to restore, preserve, and maintain the Old Blanco County Courthouse as an historic site, and as a productive integral part of the community of Blanco. Dedicated members and friends give and work for the full restoration and care of this jewel from the Gilded Age of Texas Courthouses. We are open Monday through Saturday from 10 to 4 and on Sunday from 12 to 3.

    Don't miss the museum!
Courthouse, school, hospital... the story is inside these walls. Friendly, enthusiastic volunteers help tell the fascinating story of this beautiful building.

Great from the outside, but not worth the walk through on the inside
We have admired the courthouse from the outside for years. At the Lavender Show (which is an interesting a fun event), they open the courthouse to use the very large old courtroom on the second floor for speakers. The room has a beautiful ceiling, but is rather dull beyond that. The outside structure is really beautiful--a great photo op for an example of wonderful limestone work in the late 1800's. The Mansard roof is really well done. Sad to say, the interior does not measure up to the exterior. The four outside entrances all get you to the center of the building--a classic design, but the inside is poorly maintained and needs to have a good restoration/cleaning/painting. The two staircases to the second floor are interesting, but nothing great. There is trash and "old second hand stuff" piled up in the side rooms. None of the grandeur of the original structure remains on the inside--a shame! All of the original uses of the building have been moved to Johnson City; therefore, there really is not much going on with the building. My suggestion is to look at the outside, and do not waste your time on the inside!
