4.5Torrey Pines Gliderport(1.456 reviews) - Soaring over California Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Educational sites
My husband flies model gliders, and has also flown in regular gliders and parasails, so we couldn’t miss visiting the Torrey Pines Gliderport! It’s a lot more crowded than he remembers it was in the past, but it was still really special to go there. We made our way down the path to where the guys were flying the model gliders from, and it was fun to talk to them about conditions there. I especially enjoyed watching the parasailers take off and float up and down the coast line. It was so beautiful and peaceful. It was very tempting to take a ride, but for now I am leaving that to the people braver than myself.See more..
We arrived early from Downtown on Sunday morning and saw a well-supported charity walk underway. We enjoyed a couple hours strolling around the great campus, taking in the numerous landmark sights. The four original buildings are gorgeous. Royce Hall was modelled on the Milanese Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio and has light filled vaulted arches. Powell Library has impressive architectural styling. In Romanesque Revival form it was also inspired by an Italian Basilica. It is named in honour of the university librarian with a tenure of 17 years from 1944. Marvellous modern sculptures are to be admired in the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden. An outstanding collection. A number of interesting temporary exhibitions were underway at the Fowler Museum.See more..

If you are a St. Louis Cardinals fan, you will be thrilled to see the college baseball home of legendary shortstop Ozzie Smith here at Cal Poly. Even though the field is different than when he played (in fact, very nicely updated), the homage they pay to the Wizard is great, including a small statue with plaque describing his career. We didn't spend as much time looking at the main campus because it was Move In Week and parents with students had taken over.See more..

Pepperdine University stole my heart when I visited the law school in April 2003. Until then, I had made up my mind to attend Vanderbilt University Law School and had even put a deposit on an apartment in Nashville. On a whim, I bought a plane ticket and flew from Penn State to California for Pepperdine's Admitted Students Day. By the end of the day I knew that Pepperdine was where I wanted to spend the next three years of my life! It's a beautiful beautiful campus, but even more important is its incredible sense of community not to mention the friendly and kind people who work and live there. If you ever have a chance to visit California be sure to take a trip up Los Angeles and if you ever have a chance to visit Los Angeles, you'd be silly not to head over to Malibu and see one of the most gorgeous college campuses in the nation.See more..

4.0Paley Center for Media(68 reviews) - Essentially Paley - Essentially Marilyn Closed now Speciality Museums • Libraries • Educational sites
We visited our local Paley Center for Media initially to support a local Beverly Hills #BoldBH initiative with a local artist Alexa Meade but upon arrival we realized that there was a beautiful and historical exhibit called: "Essentially Marilyn" and many of her original dresses from a selection of her movies were on display. What I love about the Paley center is that they have items on display that are icons of the entertainment industry and were actually used in film and television. They are local historians covering many genres and eras keeping history and entertainment alive. What I also love is that there is always something new from entertainment history to see.See more..

4.5Wildhaven Ranch(40 reviews) - Weekend visit to Wildhaven Friday: Nature & Wildlife Areas • Educational sites
Visited Lake Arrowhead for the first time the past weekend and researched things to do. Came across the Wildhaven Ranch and called Diane for some info. Due to covid-19, they were limiting the amount of people on tours so I was worried that my fiancee and I were not able to be selected to see the tour- they gave larger parties first priority. To my surprise, Diane called me a few days later and said that we would be allowed to participate in the tour. Ive never really be to a wildlife sanctuary vs a zoo and I was pleasantly surprised at how much of a closer experience we were able to have. Diane and her staff were very knowledgable and their dedication to their animals shows. We learned a lot about the animals and were very pleased with our experience- particularly seeing and feeding the bears! Overall was a great experiEnce that I highly recommend if you are in lake arrowhead and love animals!See more..

The GUI interface was designed and refined (not quite far enough in my opinion) here. I've used the auditorium for SIGGRAPH professional meetings. This place does not give tours to the general public (both good and bad). You must generally know people who work here (an exception where the 8th graders in the 70s who were test subjects). Woodsy (they can't have trees in the patio area due to Palo Alto laws, no shade). Look at it from a distance. My friends who worked here were lucky. They now realize this.See more..
