In each era, the forest has been affected by the actions of humans, for better or for worse. Part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, this coastal redwood preserve features majestic redwoods and scenic hiking trails that draw more than 1.5 million visitors each year.See more..

5.0Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest(524 reviews) - Beautiful, Unique Area, a Very Worthwhile Experience in the Eastern Sierras Forests
There are two trails from the Visitor center; the longer, Methuselah Trail Loop, 4.5 miles, and the shorter Discovery Trail Loop at 1.0 mile. We took the shorter due to being pressed for time. We were there in the early morning, weather was sunny and a slight wind; temperature a brisk 21 degrees F. The Visitor Center was closed and we were the only ones on the trails. Interesting to note that although the ground was covered with many pinecones dropped from mature trees, the number of new, very small trees growing is limited, by the harsh conditions. Due to the slow growth, a 12 to 14 inch Great Basin bristlecone pine (Pinus longaeva) tree could be 80 to 100 years old.See more..

5.0Founders Grove(88 reviews) - Best grove of trip! Forests
This was probably our families favorite hike in the redwoods, and it's hardly even a hike. It was easy to access and park, is only about 0.5 miles but we spent probably over an hour here. The trail is beautiful around every turn. Additionally there are TONS of trees to climb on, which was of course, the kids favorite thing. it even included this insane tree that had fallen down that we could all climb on and take a picture. Can't miss this stop.See more..
5.0Giant Sequoia National Monument(84 reviews) - Great Sequoia National Monument - Beautiful!!! Spent More than 3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Forests
The Park was truly beautiful and deserves a few days of camping. I was only there for a few hours to look around due to my schedule, but the scenery was spectacular! I was able to see only a few areas, but I’m ready for another trip! Kernville was also a wonderful place I’d recommend people get a hotel room to see the park. Great vacation location!!See more..
5.0Shasta-Trinity National Forest(80 reviews) - TOTAL BLESS National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Forests • Volcanos
This was our first trip to this area of California. We read the Trip Advisor reviews and recommendations, so we were excited for our new adventure. Our trip to this forest was our most favorite. We took Hwy 89 to find the forest and then looked for signs to the McCloud waterfalls. Drive past the Fowler Campgrounds. We first found the Middle Falls, which was fairly close to the parking lot. We didn't see another soul during our hour visit to the falls. We took in the whole experience using all of our senses. We just stared at the beautiful blue water flowing over the rocks. It's not often we STOP everything and just "be" with nature. This is nature at its best. I'm glad my left foot was injured and we couldn't walk to the Upper Falls. This forced us to just stop and fully enjoy this magical experience.See more..

We wanted a hiking trip on our recent visit to San Diego and came across this highly recommended experience. Parking was easy, although we were told we would have to park off the road and walk down to the trails; I guess 1 p.m. is a good time to get parking right on the reserve. I am not adventurous and was recovering from two broken wrists so I wasn't exactly ready for all the rocks, and I must admit I didn't make it to the top. My daughter made the entire trek, and it took about two hours. There was a couple with a stroller with two kids in it making the hike, and they made it about half way to the reservoir. Easier for me was the hike along the creek, nothing for me to trip on and still getting a good workout without thinking I'd fall and rebreak my wrists at any moment. Made for a nice afternoon where both of us were satisfied.See more..
4.5Joaquin Miller Park(42 reviews) - Joaquin Miller (Poet of the Sierras) Park: Nice Park in Oakland Hills, California Spent 2-3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks • Forests

4.5Sierra National Forest(41 reviews) - Free camping in California Spent More than 3 hours Mountains • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Forests
I recently discovered 2 free campgrounds in the Sierra National Forest, about a 2 hour drive from Fresno, Ca. One is Clover Meadow campground, the other is Granite Creek campground. Both are at the end of a scenic highway, off the Gps, no cell or Internet. And, although they are free, there is almost no one here. Lower Granite creek campground has a beautiful creek running along the campsites, and Clover Meadow has a tap into an underground spring, the most delicious free water you will ever drink!See more..

4.5Chino Hills State Park(25 reviews) - Great hike Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM State Parks • Forests
Beautiful park for hiking especially during the time of lockdown with the corona virus crisis. We went there today and able to walk along the main road but most of the trails are closed due to recent heavy rain. For people that are looking for the super bloom like last year, they will be disappointed. No much flowers around. The only ones we saw were the yellow flowers sporadically spread along the hill sides. There is a $5 charge for driving deep into the park. If you just want take a hike, you can just park your car at the entrance at the Bolton of the hill and walk up to the park., no charge for that. Everyone should go out to the park where everyone can keep a big social distance and still enjoy nature. See more..

4.5Stanislaus National Forest(10 reviews) - Beautiful forest Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Forests
There is a great little lake in Pinecrest with a beach area for swimming and motor boats/ paddle boats/ pontoon boats to rent. The lake is small but clean. The fisherman out on the lake said it’s good for trout fishing. There is a general store in Pinecrest with food and general camping supplies. The food is pricy (as you would expect given how remote you are). If you are up for a drive you can take the windy mountain road up 10,000 feet to the top for some great views. See more..
We drove from Yreka to Eureka, by way of a narrow curvy road with a nearly 6000' pass, through Sawyers Bar. Much of the road was 1-1/2 lanes wide but fully paved. The season was dry, and the road it was quite suitable for our rear wheel drive sedan. From Etna across the pass to the Indian Reservation we saw only a couple of trucks, so no problems passing. But it took 4 hours to drive the 150 miles. The weather was beautiful, and we picnicked along the Salmon River.See more..

5.0Picnic Perfect(4 reviews) - Beautiful day and surprise. Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails • Forests
Took my wife on a wonderful hike. Told her we would grab something to eat after. She was so surprised when we came to a little knoll in the woods and there it was! A picnic lunch, chairs, small table and a bottle of wine! To say she was surprised is an understatement. The cheese, meats and crackers looked great. The owner, a maybe college age guy brought it together. Left us to ourselves and returned to clean it all up. We just hiked away. I was a hero! See more..
4.0Lytle Creek Middle Fork Trail(3 reviews) - It's a great beautiful place Spent 2-3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Forests • Waterfalls
This is a beautiful place to go. However, there are people who have no respect for beauty and are destroying it by leaving trash in and by the streams. And they are tagging their gang tags all over, SMH. I don't understand why but please stop hurting the natural beauty please pick up your trash and save your tagging for your own property.
