Took the local bus to the Hotel Del Coronado and walked through the grounds and hotel. This is where they filmed Some Like It Hot with Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. Considered to be one of the greatest films of all time. Although I heard that they only filmed outside the hotel. Inside scenes were filmed at the studio. They had just recently refinished all of the wood work in the lobby when we visited in October 2022. There are some quante little outdoor eating spots that have views of the bay. This is an attractive outdoor area with good dining and what seemed like a good place for family-friendly leisure and entertainment. Our meal at Toscanova was pretty good. The cinema nearby seemed rather neat and we liked the Mediterranean feel of the outdoor area with nice landscaping, fountain pools and statue figures of frogs and young children playing. Lots of turtles in the pool as well, something else enjoyable for the little ones. I went to the mall for the first time in years to go to the Sears store. Sears is a shadow of times gone by. I remember as a child and teenager going to the mall with family and friends as a normal part of our social interaction. I went on a Monday afternoon and it was a ghost town. Parking was easy of course, but inside the mall it felt like a ghost town. I told my mother that I felt a little sorry for the guy working in the appliance department of Sears. He looked so bored and lonely. In the age of Super Walmarts and Amazon.com it is a wonder that these retail sites still exist. One thing that I noticed was the proliferation of service businesses in the mall, this signals to me an attempt at the malls to try and conform to changing demands. The play area is updated from time-to-time to keep it in good repair and interesting for the young ones. We use playtime at the mall as a reward for good behavior after shopping. It's fun for us to watch as the children play with new-found friends. It's also nice to have a seat and relax for the the adults.See more..
