  1. 5.0 Sonora Pass (30 reviews)
    - Nerve racking and beautiful scenic drive
Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails • Motorcycle Trails

The drive was beautiful, but scary when you have an over-packed minivan. I had 6 passengers, luggages in the back and roof of the van. On the descent, I had the van in 1st gear and was on the brakes constantly while letting it breathe once in a while. About 10 miles from Sonora Junction, I had major brake fade and the brake pedal hit bottom. Luckily, I was only going about 20 miles an hour and hit a flat area where I was about to pull safely to the side. I allowed my brakes to cool down for 1 hour and we finally made it safely to our destination (Mammoth Lakes). I had my brake fluid replaced in town with a higher temp fluid and we drove back the same way and this time, no brake fade. Forewarn, some of the grades exceed 20% and it's a doozy! See more..

When you leave Red Bluff and enter Route 36, you see the sign every biker dreams of: Curves, next 140 miles! A couple of hours of pure joy, without a straight piece of road in sight. So great we had to take it twice, in both directions! See more..

All the other trails around the north state are closed because of snow but CHappie-Shasta was not so we decided to check it out. It was worth it and have to say this will be our first pick next summer. See more..

We have been to Hungry Valley OHV several times to go off-roading in the Jeep, ATVs and Dirt Bikes. The OHV is well maintained, the trails are well marked, maps are provided. In addition to the miles and miles of trails, they also offer campgrounds and 4x4 off road training obstacles. See more..

It's a really nice park. Never been to one of these kinds of parks but since we bought a Jeep we decided to give it a try. It's open every day but Wednesday. The fee is $5 to get in. They have many " obstacles " for one to do. Make sure you go right to the wash after words. See more..

  7. 4.0 Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park (2 reviews)
    - Maybe good for riding, not for viewing
    Motorcycle Trails
    Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park image
They had one shot to get me interested in their motorsports facility and failed. Their posted hours are until 5pm on weekends. Their online posted pricing is only for riders, ergo unless there's an event worth charging, it should be free for looky-loos or a posted price for entry should be made clear. There's also no visibly posted price for entrance at the gate either for individuals or for cars. How do I know I'm not being ripped off at the whim of the gate attendant? So when we showed up at 430 (they close in 30 minutes) and the guy at the gate wanted $10 per person in the car just to check it out (maybe for his own pocket?)...FORGET IT! See more..
  8. 4.0 Quail Canyon Special Events Area (1 review)

Spent More than 3 hours Motorcycle Trails
This park is a great location for off-road riding. Well used paths. Dusty and dirty, just the way we it. Hills and trails. They have running water and bathrooms available. No food though. Medical treatment and food are 15 - 30 minute drive. See more..
  9. 5.0 Rock Front OHV Area (1 review)
    - A Solid Option for Off-roaders Looking for a Challenge
    Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Hiking Trails • Motorcycle Trails • Off-Road & ATV Trails
    Rock Front OHV Area image
The trails here are suitable for just about every dirt toy. And for those with capable 4x4’s, there are a few remote/primitive camps tucked back along the trails. Between the broken up ‘roads’ and lack of formal trail maintenance, I wouldn’t recommend this place for beginners (dirt bikers, at least). That said, there several well-marked trails with varying difficulty levels all presenting at least a moderate challenge. The main requirements here are: If your vehicle isn’t plated, make sure you have an ORV sticker (either CA or your home state); and spark arrestors…rangers periodically check. I regularly use and highly recommend the “Avenza Maps” app as it provides an awesome detail of all of the current/open trails and campground…download before you go as the whole area is a cellular dead spot. Keep the rubber side down and happy trails See more..
