Took the sunline bus to the visitors center but found it was a 3.7 mile hike to the tram. ( to visit a vehicle is needed ) Got a lift from an elderly couple to the parking lots and walked up the steep parking lot and some stairs to the departure building. the fare is reasonable and the tram leaves every 10 minutes. The floor rotates as you rise and the rugged mountain scenery takes your breath away. At the top landing the temperature was just at freezing level so a warm sweater is an asset. The views of the valley below were spectacular as you are 8600 feet up. The café was closed but the restaurant was first class but very reasonable with panoramic views of the mountain. When I got into the gondola for the trip down I had a bit of vertigo looking down at the bottom landing so steep and far below. The whole ride was truly a great adventure and should definitely be tried if you are in the area.See more..

Grizzly Peak is a summit in Berkeley Hills which one crosses while driving in or out of the city. It is close to the Tilden Regional Park and provides a beautiful view of the nature in and around. We enjoy our drive through the Peak whenever we visit Berkeley and take photos of the unique view it provides of the Golden Gate Bridge and the surrounding Bay Area.See more..
4.5Daffodil Hill(86 reviews) - It just could not survive the hordes of entitled patrons Mountains • Gardens
I managed to see this place for the first time in 2018 during it's last year of operation. Here is what I saw. People having picnics, painting easels and photographers in restricted areas. There were lovely little signs that kindly asked visitors to stay on the path and instead people walked into the groves wherever they wanted. Worst of all I saw trampled flowers and trash. This beautiful area rightly closed - the evidence as to why was apparent within Daffodil Hill itself but also outside of it's fences. Traffic seemed to have tripled as I emerged from the property. A frazzled and defeated looking old man struggled to direct traffic while two minivan drivers argued over a parking spot. This precious area with it's two lane road could visibly no longer endure the traffic or the entitlement of it's patrons. Thank goodness she closed before the pandemic and the height of the meme/influencer stage., It surely would have been destroyed beyond recoverySee more..
5.0Lakes Basin(66 reviews) - Great views of mountain lakes Bodies of Water • Mountains

4.5Mount Umunhum(44 reviews) - Tourists and locals must visit Spent 2-3 hours Mountains
Awesome trail. absolutely nothing challenging. slight gradient and wide well-groomed trail all the way up. perhaps rated moderate simply for the length? This trail is a geologic wonderland. And once you get to the top, there is so much awesome cold war history. 98% of this hike is under tree cover of some sort. the summit exposed. the trail redirects at the summit parking lot to a brand new staircase. I only saw two bicycles and they were very slow. Sketchy mobile phone service most of the way up the trail. nice bathrooms at the trailhead and at the summit. See more..
4.5Sierra National Forest(41 reviews) - Free camping in California Spent More than 3 hours Mountains • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Forests
I recently discovered 2 free campgrounds in the Sierra National Forest, about a 2 hour drive from Fresno, Ca. One is Clover Meadow campground, the other is Granite Creek campground. Both are at the end of a scenic highway, off the Gps, no cell or Internet. And, although they are free, there is almost no one here. Lower Granite creek campground has a beautiful creek running along the campsites, and Clover Meadow has a tap into an underground spring, the most delicious free water you will ever drink!See more..

5.0Lassen Volcanic National Park(23 reviews) - Great national park with lots to see and do Mountains • National Parks • Volcanos
This is a terrific park with many different landscapes and features. There are a few sights that are right off the main highway, like Sulphur Works, but you'll have to do at least a little walking/hiking to really experience the park. The hike to Lassen Peak is rather challenging but well worth it. At the summit you can find panoramic views as well as the youngest rocks in California, dating back to its eruption in 1915. The easy walk around Manzanita Lake also has pretty scenery and plenty of tranquility. The main visitor center has great displays on the geothermal history of the area, and Manzanita Lake has a small cafe, a store, and other basic amenities. Overall, one of the great, but overlooked, parks of California.See more..

4.0Cobb Mountain(9 reviews) - The best kept secret getaway Mountains I have lived in Cobb for 28years. It is a beautiful mountain village located just 25 minutes north of Calistoga California, which is the northern tip of the Napa Valley wine region. If you are the outdoor type there is Boggs sate forest with excellent hiking and biking trails, There is Boggs lake reserve for hikes and wildlife watching, there are cute cabins for rent, campgrounds at Pine Grove Resort and other areas. If you are a Bass fisherman , Clear lake is famous for that and just a few miles away. 4.5Boundary Peak(2 reviews) - A bit of a biased review Spent More than 3 hours Mountains
Since I was born here, this review is kind of biased. I had to go to a family affair and took my partner to see where I was born. (The actual hospital I was born in.) it’s all creepy now because it’s been closed for years, and reportedly haunted! We went to the Catholic cemetery that I never knew existed, and learned history that I didn’t know about too.See more..
