We took our group of 16 on a 1 hour trail ride. We had 6 adults and 10 kids ages 6-16. Some with a little experience and some with none. I was super impressed with their managing of our large group. From matching us up to appropriate horses, to teaching the kids the basics, to engaging with the kids and intentionally learning our names. The entire staff, every guide, was friendly, personable, intent on providing a fun but safe experience. I love that we had four guides go out with us, spaced apart. I loved that we did some training. I loved that we went through creeks and up and down the mountains. Every kid loved the experience, it was a trip highlight. If you have not been on horses quite a bit, this is a scary trail. It has steep hills. One miscalculated step of the hourse and you could go down a cliff. The trail guides were rude, did not give us any instructions, just put us on the horse and said: " let's get the f...out of here". Lucy our guide was incredible with my 10 year old grandchildren who were beginners on horses. She was consistently checking in with them and offering helpful tips for their riding experience balancing safety with fun. The horses picked for the four of us were very appropriate. The day was fun, exciting, and safe. The scenery was beautiful as well as the day. It was a wonderful experience riding past lemon groves, prestigious polo club, down to the beautiful beach where we walked beside the surf. All the places my grandkids had their pony ride this place is the most fun they had. Adults can ride the well trained horses with the little ones too. For 20 bucks we had a blast. There is a small petting zoo filled with well fed animals. A duck with a crown and chickens with feathers all over. A cow, llama, donkey and nosy goats. You don't have to travel far to spend a day in a farm. Entrance is a buck. 5.00 for kids pony ride. Just make sure you pay attention or you will miss the entrance to this place. Our stay at the ranch was a much needed reprieve from the chaos of our day to day life. We enjoyed the solitude, proximity to Irongate Lake, a hidden nearby waterfall, and the extremely comfy King-sized bed! However our favorite part of our stay, was the wild horses that roamed free on the property, and hearing them on the close by trail at night. One of the most beautiful trail rides I have been on. I have often found that the horses rented by the hour tend to be older, overworked and in generally poor condition, that is most definitely not the case with this stable. Both my daughter and I were provided with younger, healthy and well trained trail horses. I enjoyed that the ride was a little challenging with some hills. This is a family owned ranch and the owner is also the trail ride guide. He takes great care of the horses and a large variety of other animals on the ranch. We went on the two hour ride and enjoyed the spectacular views, engaging conversations with the guide and two photo stops where he took pictures of all of us on the horses with our camera. The ranch is located in a remote hilly and rocky area and we saw no other people during the ride. Our 'two' hour ride actually lasted almost 3 hours. Took our second trip with Todd of Lazy T Trail rides yesterday. So glad we found him, what a nice person to take a ride with. He has nice horses that are suitable for riders of all types. He runs a small operation with just 5 or so horses, and is happy to just take out 2 people for really nice trail rides. We rode in the Oroville area in the Feather River wildlife preserve on our first trip with him. Very pretty scenery by the river. On our 2nd trip he took us up to Oroville State Park and lake. Great trails through wooded rolling hills, and they have a really well set up horse camp there. It has campsites with picnic tables, fire rings, and even has shower facilities. My family went on a two hour "Lake Ride" along the shore of Huntington Lake. We all had a really fun time. I was impressed with the quality of horses and how well they are cared for. I have seen other pack stations that have ill cared for stock. The owner and the cowboys were all very friendly, safety oriented and helpful. The staff did a great job of matching the horse to the rider. Children were required to wear helmets. The Lake Ride was on a trail that paralleled the shore of Huntington Lake.
