    - Great Roadshool Day With The Kids

    Lake Shasta Caverns image
We are roadtripping and doing school with our 2 young kids as we go. We are glad we stopped at Lake Shasta Caverns, and our guide, Jerri-Anne (probably not correct spelling) was great. Our 5 & 7 year old did all 700+ stairs by themselves, and we held our 6 lb. dog the entire tour. No backpacks or child carriers are allowed, so prepare to hold a water bottle and carry little kids. We recommend the 10 AM Tour as a chance of having fewer people on the tour. The ferry ride across the lake has amazing views, and the bus ride to the cavern entrance is insane! If you're scared of heights sit on the other side of the bus! See more..

A unique tour, be prepared for LOTS of stairs! As you travel down 200+ steps into the earth and view whats underneath you begin to realize how amazing the earth truly is. 9. 4.5 Subway Cave (94 reviews)
    - Cook walk on a hot day!
    Caverns & Caves
    Subway Cave image
We joined four PCT hikers during a break & resupply stop on their journey. There are two picnic tables, so it was ideal for our time together. The cave provided a cool and enjoyable respite for all of us. Lights are needed. Phone lights are adequate, but flashlights are better for seeing the cave. We chose to return through the cave, because of the outside temperature, rather that hiking the outside trail back to the entrance. It worked well. Our highlight came when a talented member of our group engaged another small group in a couple of songs, sung in a round format. This was in the large area near the exit. It was a delightful few minutes, enjoyed by all who were in the area. See more..
