We visited both the "Taste of Monterey" in Monterey and also in Salinas. We visited "Taste of Monterey" at Salinas on a late Friday afternoon and plenty of people were coming in. One wine-tasting flight is just $5. We bought one flight each, then bought a couple of bottles of wine, and we received $5 off each bottle. All the tasting wines at the Salinas Taste of Monterey come from Salinas Valley grapes. Vineyards in Salinas Valley focus mostly on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Wines from throughout the Central California region are available for purchase. Lucky visitors may receive a tutorial on Salinas Valley vineyards, soil, climate and growing conditions provided by Denny. We found it to be a fun and educational experience. If you're visiting the Salinas area with an interest in wine, Taste of Monterey Salinas provides a great introduction. See more..
  19. 4.5 Bridge To Nowhere (51 reviews)
    - Gorgeous long hike
Historic Walking Areas • Hiking Trails
    Bridge To Nowhere image
This was one of the most beautiful and enjoyable hikes I've been on. There isn't much climbing or steep elevation involved so it's nice to just enjoy the outdoors and your gorgeous surroundings, just be aware of your steps! It's very rocky ground. Depending on when you go you will need to cross through multiple rivers and streams and the current can sometimes be a little strong so tread carefully and wisely and bring extra socks! While the hike is pretty moderate it is a long one if you plan to reach the bridge or go past it. My group covered a solid 12 miles that day with one hour rest stop and by mile 11 my knees were feeling it due to the rocky terrain so good shoes and a hiking stick are highly recommended. See more..

Enjoyed walking down the main road there through the middle of town. Their parking for cars was different and people travelling through have obvious problems. All parking on the main road through town is where the driver has to back in diagonally. Odd. But walking through town was nice, level ground. In the summer around noon was hot though. We stopped into shops and restaurants to cool down. See more..

This train ride and panning for gold was a real treat. I road on an open car with the tree trunks carved into seats. Perfection. Very nice ride and fun discussion of history. The panning for gold was fun and the man who taught us panning had a nice presentation on history of gold in the area. I was only adult panning with a group of small kids. I guess I am still a kid at heart. I had a blast. They have a portapotty up top, but real flush bathrooms by gold panning. See more..

Yes, the apostrophe is in the right place; there are two proprietors; husband and wife, for this mid 1800’s store. This is in the historic town of Columbia from California Gold Rush Days. Danette is very enthusiastic in sharing her love and expertise of history. She likes to connect people with an accurate picture of our past. A photographic demonstration may be available for small groups showing how children used to dress, cut and style their hair, what boys may have had in their pockets, and more. She sells items for crafters, such as stencils and floor cloths from the mid 1800’s. There are books, toys, diaries, and craft kits for children to take home. She has a doll collection and a beautiful child’s wagon with the inscription Big Trees, which she received as a gift. Be sure to ask for the story of the little boy who owned it; who grew up to manage the Wawona Hotel in Yosemite. She has written a very interesting book about it that's for sale. The business name of this shop: exchange of information, skills, and activities that pertain to Calif. You will leave this store with much historical information and a curiosity for history! As the pioneer settlement of the first farmers in the Oxnard Plain, the Oxnard Historic Farm Park is home to the two oldest buildings (the 1872 Farmhouse and the 1876 Winery), a towering 1800s Canary Island Date Palm, an 1890s Carriage House, two vineyards of 1880s Zinfandel Blanc grapes, a lemon orchard, an avocado grove, and five historically representative gardens...oh, and that doesn't even account for our numerous exhibitions of historic photos and farm implements that show the evolution of farming in the Oxnard Plain over the past three centuries! Stop by on a Tuesday or Saturday morning (9am-11pm) to look around, learn some local history, or just have a picnic in our covered pavilion. We have an acre of land available for private events including weddings, baby showers, birthdays, memorials, retirement parties, etc. The Oxnard Historic Farm Park & Museum is run by the Oxnard Historic Farm Park Foundation, which is a local 501c(3).
