Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial is a gem that awaits your discovery. In addition to honoring veterans, living or deceased, from the Revolutionary War to the current war on terrorism, with an image of the veteran, it offers one of the most spectacular views in the entire city. It's easy to find, has reasonable onsite parking and a portable restroom. Because of its height and proximity to the coast, the marine layer can limit your viewing pleasure. However, on clear days it's truly a spectacular place to visit. Weekends can be crowded, while weekdays improve your chances of locating a good parking spot. As with all outdoor activities in San Diego, a hat and sun screen are recommended. Also, a good pair of binoculars will add to your viewing pleasure.See more..

Whenever I am going anywhere I always check out the reviews on Google. I know that on there any bad comments are left up unless the person decided to take them down themself, and the business has the oportunity to answer to the comments in their own defence. As far as I can tell, they cannot deny knowledge and have comments removed like they can on other sites. So to get honesty, this is my online site for information on places.See more..

We watch for this goofy statue every time we travel through Encinitas JUST to see how he's been outfitted in a current iteration. It's a tradition to dress him up to mark holidays, events, and (seemingly) just to vent. This time around, he was wreathed in the biggest lei ever and flowers sprung up under his surf board. He finally got some respect! It's about time (or not). He's an icon, something we all look for!See more..

4.0Soldiers Memorial Monument(21 reviews) - Pleasant Hill Native's recollection Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
I grew up in Pleasant Hill in the 50's and 60's and what has been posted here about the monument is mostly correct. The monument was originally placed in the center divide of lanes at the intersection of Contra Costa Blvd ( Then HWY 24 ) and Monument Blvd as this was a Major intersection in Contra Costa County before Freeways. Each highway was only one lane each direction at that time. Then came widening if Monument Blvd sometime in the late 50's if I remember right. The Monument was moved temporarily to it's present location. After the roads were widened to 4 lanes it was moved back to the Northeast corner of the CC Blvd/ Monument Blvd intersection. It was there until moved back to where it sits today when the 680 Freeway came in. It was constructed originally as a Memorial to World War 1 soldiers and like others have said deserves more recognition. Yes I am Retired Veteran and feel strongly that those who suffered in war should be honored.See more..
The Vietnam Unit Memorial Monument is a large, flag adorned memorial wall and three "brown water" Navy boats that honor the Navy and Coast Guard personnel who died while supporting Naval operations during the Vietnam war. It's a park-like setting that includes a picnic table and awning. The monument is located on the Naval Amphibious Base on Coronado. If you do not have a Department of Defense ID to access the military base, you will need an escort. View the website for directions and instructions for getting an escort required for security regulations.See more..
This is a challenging park to visit due to its presence o a military base. We were able to visit as part of a tour group--about 28 of us with our group departing from John Muir NHS. The weather was beautiful by the water. The story is so important for the history of the area as well as US history. The first seeds of desegregation began here after this tragedy and it is important that we remember the loss of life and freedoms that occurred here. We had ample time to see the site before returning back to John Muir NHS.See more..
4.0Portal of the Folded Wing(13 reviews) - Wonderful tranquil shrine Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
To the aviators and pioneers of the sky is dedicated this ornate shrine. Built in 1924 it is the final resting place for the brave few who in the early days achieved crucial advances in aviation. Set within the Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery it is highly ornate with impressive art work in carved stone. Featuring mosaics and statuary it is a fitting memorial to the trailblazers. A special plaque is dedicated to Amelia Earhart who in 1932 flew solo across the Atlantic and three years later accomplished similarly across the Pacific. Nearby is a scaled-down replica of the space shuttle Columbia, which commemorates the 2003 disaster in which seven astronauts were killed during its return flight.See more..

4.0World's Largest Paper Cup(12 reviews) - It’s big. Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
Majestic. Revolutionary. Enlightening. Big. All words used to describe what is arguably the most significant landmark in Riverside, California. Your pilgrimage will take you to a quiet business district where one would never suspect to find such a marvel. There is absolutely no parking, ensuring that only those who are truly worthy will be able to make the quarter-mile journey from the nearest available lot. Not for the faint of heart, prepare to be filled with wonder: How did it get there? Who built it? What’s inside? Questions we will never know the answers to, as there is no signage. Just an ominous, gigantic cup standing tall and proud.See more..

4.0Johnny Lang Grave(10 reviews) - Johnnt Grave Site Monuments & Statues
We had the wrong spot to search and spent some time beating the bushes looking and then gave up. While leaving we saw the Marked on the other side of Key View Road. Turned around and had a hard time parking because this area has curbs, but did find Lost Horse Mine Road and were able to park there and walk to the Grave Site. Could not read all of the marker but could still see his name. A part of this areas history about a miner that died on this lonely area. Was hard to find but worth the effort. This small museum in Tulelake is well worth the time and several dollar entrance fee. Even better when paired with the short drive to Newell, where the WWII "segregation center" was actually located. My 13 year old daughter and I learned that the center was where Japanese Americans, many of them US citizens, were sent if they did not respond correctly to a "loyalty" test. The museum in Tulelake has photos, documents, and a replica of living quarters and a guard tower, and is staffed by Park Rangers who can answer questions. The museum also covers other aspects of local WWII involvement, as well as info about the Modoc War, the Homestead movement, local farming, and more.See more..

We enjoy, others died. A huge debt that can never be collected. Here stands a silent, simple, yet powerfully moving monument to what each of us feels our lives and existence is worth as a gift from a stranger, many of whom suffered greatly to give it. Unveiled in January 2019 this latest sculpture by the American artist Tom Friedman is marvellous. In stainless steel, it is symbolic of rushing about and deadlines that many of us experience these days. Precariously keeping many takeaway cartons in equilibrium, the figure hastens to complete the many deliveries on his head. I think it also expresses aspects of the so-called gig economy that is prevalent in many modern societies.See more..
