4.5Indian Canyons(1.604 reviews) - lovely one Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Historic Sites • Ancient Ruins • Canyons
Andreas Canyon is a lovely one hour loop hike that's mostly shaded. It's home to the world’s second-largest California Fan Palm oasis. We all loved it so much. We went early in the morning (around 9:30am in April) which was perfect. Cost was $12 per adult which we paid at the ranger station. They accepted a credit card. Great for kids. Love seeing all this water in the desert.Just watch for rattle snakes. We didn't see any but other hikers told us they had seen one. I would go again. It really was so amazingSee more..

4.5Tahquitz Canyon(747 reviews) - Should not have to pay for a hike. Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Canyons
This was a beautiful little two mile hike and definitely worth going on. There are quite a bit of steps heading up to the waterfall so it could be exhausting for some. It is a loop so you get to see a lot of different scenery which is nice. There was a stream for most of the way up and a nice waterfall at the top. It is a very small area and lots of people taking pictures so it does get a little crowded at the top with people stopping and then you waiting a bit. The downside is that you have to pay $12.50 per person which I find to be ridiculous. I have never had to pay to go on a single hike before. I would have been ok with $5, so I feel it was too expensive but it was a nice little hike. Also, if you get there really early in the morning, there is a line to get in because there is only one person working the register. They really need to get a second person in there to help. Would have given 5 stars but the fact that I had to pay I gave it four.See more..

Hands down our favorite trail on this trip. The scrambles were a blast and the end is just so neat to imagine water rushing over. It’s busy at the start and then thins out as you go and people turn back. We had downloaded the All Trails map in advance, which was helpful to navigate one section that had a change in trail due to some rock blocking the trail. There are also rock arrows that people have made in the trail to help navigate.See more..
We stopped at Natural Bridge after visiting Badwater Basin. I wasn't sure if we'd have time for this, but glad we could squeeze it in. The trail leads about 3/4 mile through a narrow canyon. The natural bridge is about half way down the trail and is very impressive. Its about 35 feet high and 35 feet thick. Just past the bridge is a tall, dry waterfall along the side. The trail seems to end at another dry waterfall, but continues if you climb up. I didn't think it was too hard, about half the people on the trail when we were there did it and the other half waited at the bottom. There's another dry waterfall to climb up and then it ends at a bigger one that is probably impassable to most people. All in all, a fun hike and very cool geological features.See more..
4.5Palm Canyon(231 reviews) - A desert oasis Canyons • Deserts
It's amazing to be in a true desert oasis and imagine what life was like for the Cahuilla people who's ancestral home this is. There are about 2000 of California Fan Palms here in Palm Canyon and makes this the place where the largest collection of them can be found anywhere. There is a fee to enter Indian Canyons but it's totally worth it to see all this amazing natural desert beauty.See more..

4.5Eaton Canyon(183 reviews) - Great hike - but don't expect to see waterfalls in autumn Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Nature & Wildlife Areas • Canyons
I hiked in this Canyon last week. I highly recommend it if you're looking to return to nature/get away from the busy city. Notes: because it has been so dry, the waterfall was barely a trickle Most of the signs are in poor condition (see pic below) so make sure you have access to the trail directions before you stop hiking. I accidentally added an extra 4 miles and 2000 foot elevation gain I read several reviews on alltrails about this being a shady hike, but if you hike it after 3 p.m., it isn't. Take more water than you think you need. Parking was plentiful and free.See more..
4.5Borrego Palm Canyon Nature Trail(112 reviews) - Great for Spotting Bighorn Sheep and Palm Tree Oasis Spent 2-3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Canyons • Hiking Trails
This particular spot was part of our first adventure hike. It was amazing, breathtaking, and exciting. The best part was the bighorn sheep. They are not shy and must love the camera. It was the first time I have been this close to them Then we ventured to the palm tree oasis another area of beauty and interest. It was truly a great 1st stop adventure for us. Definitely, a return spot to explore especially in the evening. Gorgeous view of the stars.See more..
The slots are a must see you when you come to Anza Borrego. Sometimes you will pay a fee, so keep a $10 bill on you. There is some scrambling to get in and out of the canyon, and once you’re in the canyon there’s some tight spots. We go there every time we come to the desert because it’s such a wonderful experienceSee more..

Recently I went to Bishop and highway 395 due to the Fall foliage there. I thought southern California is dry and boring now. But surprisingly, lots of water in ice house canyon and it's full of life. What's more, when you are closer to the boundary of Cucamonga wilderness, you see huge amounts of yellow leaves. Fall is in the south California too!See more..

The astuute student of geography will only call this a canyon. For our eyes, it is bushes, shrubs, vegetation. The views are average. Do not come here thinking the great views are here.See more..
See more..
