My teenage daughter and I booked a 2 hour private ride. What a wonderful way to experience the dry mountain area around Shaver Lake - wild life, trees, rock formations. The guide/owner was knowledgeable of the area and its history, personable and was safety focused. The horses were friendly, well-behaved and are obviously much-loved. Overall a great experience that we would recommend. See more..

We took the grandkids and the dog for a walk. The day was ideal, cool and sunny. Cattle roamed around, big ground squirrels and birds of every kind. Both grandparents were tired by the halfway point, as it is up and down and we are getting older. The 4 year old needed help so grandpa carried him. The 7 year old proclaimed “I’m dead. Tell my story”. (Where did she get that?) We made it to the car and drank the water we had left there. Everyone lived. The grandson took a nap. Take your water even if it’s a cool day. It is a beautiful area, just be prepared. See more..

I’ve used this trail for over a decade! It has beautiful nature and is peaceful. very family, pet, bicyclist, and even horse friendly. there’s a bridge with a river, that you can actually go down to the river (But I think it’s gated now), in the past people used to pan for gold. On the bridge has tons of locks that people have put on them to signify their relationship! There are also benches spread through out, and cool workout areas with instructions! I love when people make little rock towers by the path of the trail. You’ll see cows, and occasionally turkeys. There have been sightings of bears and mountain lions but I haven’t seen any, though I’d always go with someone if at night, otherwise it’s very safe. here is a picture from a few winters ago, along with a few other pics through-out the years. All the places my grandkids had their pony ride this place is the most fun they had. Adults can ride the well trained horses with the little ones too. For 20 bucks we had a blast. There is a small petting zoo filled with well fed animals. A duck with a crown and chickens with feathers all over. A cow, llama, donkey and nosy goats. You don't have to travel far to spend a day in a farm. Entrance is a buck. 5.00 for kids pony ride. Just make sure you pay attention or you will miss the entrance to this place. Located between the freeway and a mini strip mall and across the street are restaurants. See more..

We went to Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve. There are nice views of the hills and distant views of Pacific Ocean. Its a good place for a hike and enjoying the views. There is also a tribute to Audrey C. Rust, who was the President of the Peninsula Open Space and helped to get much of this land available for public use. See more..
  8. 4.5 Schabarum Regional Park (4 reviews)
    - Regional Park with lots of hiking options
Biking Trails • Equestrian Trails • Hiking Trails
    Schabarum Regional Park image
Park with playgrounds, hiking trails for all levels, and horseback riding. You can park inside (paid) or try to find street parking along the neighboring areas. It’s located right across the Puente Hills Mall, so you can easily grab a meal or go shipping before/after being at the park. Public restrooms are available and still open during covid. Masks are required. There are a lot of different trails you can take and there’s workout equipment like pull up bars available. Some of the hikes do get a bit steep, but there are family-friendly options. There’s also a cement path for those looking for a more flat surface. There’s not a lot of shade, so bring a hat and wear sunscreen. There are a lot of picnic tables and I noticed a lot of families/groups using them. There are snakes and mountain lions so be mindful. Overall, this park provides a great way to have access to nature even in the middle of the ‘burbs. See more..
