What a wonderful place to get a "taste of Italy." From Pastries to Pasta one can find it all. I enjoy the area for the feel of the Italian descendants. It gets packed with College Students from the local University and people come from all areas to visit. The food is worth the trip! Visiting Arther Avenue for the Ferraagosto Festival is on my bucket list. The area is already so lively, I am looking forward to seeing how much more festive it can be. All the places are walking distance from one another. I recommend a stroll through and then pick out a place for Lunch or Dinner, then find a place for an expresso and Gelato then find places to stack up food to bring home. Pick out great bread, mozzarella, prosciutto, imported olive oil or even a cigar. One will enjoy a day in Little Italy of the Bronx. See more..

    - Effecient form of transportation for NYC
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Long Island Rail Road image
Pleasantly surprised being what a dump the NYC subway system is. This railroad was clean and efficient. Jamaica station was connected to the JFK airport AirTrain and the purchase of tickets was not too difficult for a first timer. Rode the LIRR out to the Long Island area for a tour and then that night took it into Penn Station for a NY Rangers game in Madison Sq. Garden. The Garden is right above Penn Station so you never have to go outside and worry about the criminal element in NYC. Train schedules were posted and easy to read and every train seemed to be on time. I will definitely utilize this on any return trip to NYC. The station in Jamaica had food and water available from various businesses and at decent prices for NY. See more..

However the new bridge offers for than substantially reduced traffic jams.its a spectacular architectural achievement and now provides a wonderful way to get some exercise with the new walkway that spans from Tarrytown to Nyack. It’s free and has ample room as well as seating areas throughout the walkway. It’s patrolled and there is constant video monitoring. Masks are required and hand sanitizers are placed at the entrances of the pathways . It’s a fantastic way to experience the beauty of the Hudson River and to my surprise it wasn’t windy! Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lighthouses
    Saugerties Lighthouse image
I passed the sign for the Saugerties Lighthouse on my trip up to Catskill, NY and planned a trip when I drove back down to Saugerties. The path down the lighthouse can be difficult without the right shoes and make sure to go on a sunny day while the sun is shining. That path can be dangerous when it gets dark outside. On a sunny afternoon it is very nice walk. There are all sorts of interesting wildflowers along the route. The lighthouse itself can use some renovation. The place was closed inside because it serves as a B & B and the lighthouse keepers home. Still the lighthouse looks very majestic on the side of the river. It built in a very different era and you can see its many uses. See more..

07/05/20 Of course one is getting very bored with the Covid19 quarantines. My wife and I Went to this park after seeing the Griffis sculpture at the Outer Harbor. A nice day trip. Wear good hiking shoes and bring some water to stay hydrated. The park is very huge with trails loaded with unique sculptures along the way. There are flat meadows and some challenging hills, but all are very doable. It was also nice that some of your hike is in sunny areas and others are within shady treed forests Sculptures are very interesting My only comment is that I would be helpful to have background information on the works of art. There is none. Well worth the time to go there. See more..

    Richardson Olmsted Campus image
One of Buffalo’s most iconic buildings and a National Historic Landmark, the 145-year-old Richardson Olmsted Campus is being renewed after years of neglect. Designed by great American architect Henry Hobson Richardson and the famed landscape team of Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, the building incorporated a system of enlightened treatment for people with mental illness developed by Dr. Thomas Story Kirkbride. Today, the Richardson Olmsted Campus is home to one of the largest historic preservation projects in the nation. Since 2006, the nonprofit Richardson has been hard at work bringing the site back to life after decades of neglect. See more..

    Patriots and Heroes Park image
Russell Salvatore, local businessman and philanthropist, paid for this park to honor military personnel, first responders, and local people that perished in disasters. It is a very interesting park. I happened upon it on my morning walk. It has very detailed and striking exhibits. If you have the time you should visit. See more..

Had been there from a tour company that conducts Niagara Tours- the views from the top were just awesome- the museum itself was very informative & had many displays that explained about Hydro-electric power generation- even though it was bit cold & rainy that day - it was totally worth it- don't miss this on the Niagara trip. Upside Down Railroad Bridge image
This is visible from the Pine Streer bridge where many have taken to the secret tradition of writing a note or signing their name and date on a lock and then locking to the fence on on bridge. You can walk across the upside down bridge or tressel by entering the tracks at your own risk near the zip line attraction. There is a man walk but it is a long way down to your death if you dare to cross. This picture is from the middle of the upside down bridge of the locks. See more..
  48. 4.0 Chester A. Arthur Memorial Tomb (66 reviews)
    - Very Beautiful Cemetery
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
Chester A. Arthur Memorial Tomb image
Chester A. Arthur the 21st President is buried in this huge and old cemetery named Albany Rural Cemetery. This is a very nice and peaceful cemetery. Not a lot of information on how to find the grave though. You just have to look it up online at their website at www.albanyruralcemetery.org and it gives you a location. But no directions. It was easy enough to find and fun driving in the cemetery. A lot of dignataries buried here. Quite a different grave for Chester Arthur with a huge memorial concrete casket above ground and an angel standing and overlooking the tomb. If you are in the area it is worth the visit. See more..
  49. 4.5 Union Station (65 reviews)
    - Doesn't take a lot of time, but breathtaking
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Union Station image
We stopped on a Sunday afternoon, as we were in town to explore. The building is representative of "travel centers" from 100 years ago. The seating area could hold hundreds of people - waiting for trains. Sadly deserted, with a half-dozen customers, the building calls to a better time. When there were no interstates, but plenty of railroads. We got to see the Lakeshore Limited stop for about 6 people, as it made it's way to NYC from Chicago. Young people would probably not get the fascination, but it was exciting for a retired person who remembers "the old days." See more..

    - So excited to finally take the elevator down!

    Schoellkopf Power Station image
I've been coming to Niagara Falls for 30 years but just got to take the Schoellkopf elevator this year. I was so excited. Just open the doors, go in, and press the button. It will take you down to the gorge level where you can read the historical information on the wall and see the wonderful gorge-level view. I took the hiking trail to the right for a few minutes until it got too rocky/steep for me, but it was neat. I loved this! Free parking in the Niagara Gorge Discovery Center parking lot. See more..
