Gorgeous, peaceful estate. We did a self guided tour of the gardens, as there are no formal tours this season due to covid-19. I'm already planning my next visit this season, and look forward to going back for a tour of the house when it reopens. The grounds and gardens themselves are beautiful, but combined with the amazing views of the surrounding area it's stunning. Wear sensible shoes, bring a hat or sunscreen, and know that the rest rooms really are closed for the season. It's quite a ways to any public restroom, so make sure you stop before visiting if you are coming from a distance. The peacocks were not strolling the gardens as I envisioned, they were caged. There was a small koi pond, several water features, many statues, and impressive stone work. I imagine it's gorgeous when the flowering shrubs are in bloom. It would be well worth several visits throughout the season.See more..
4.5Landis Arboretum(15 reviews) - Best outdoor space in the capital region. Spent 1-2 hours Gardens
Landis is an arboretum and public garden incorporating hundreds of acres in Schoharie and Montgomery Counties of New York State. We're close to Albany, Schenectady, and the rest of the Capital Region of New York State. Arboretum founder Fred Lape began the work of developing the Arboretum in the 1950's on Oak Nose Farm, his family homestead. With the support of a bequest from friend and colleague George Landis, Fred aimed to grow every species of woody plant from temperate regions around the world that would survive in the hills of Schoharie County. Forty acres of the Arboretum are developed with plantings of trees, shrubs, and herbaceous perennials from around the world. The remainder of the property consists of natural areas, woodlands, wetlands, more than 8 miles of trails, and open fields. Among the Arboretum's horticultural features are a labeled collection of nearly all the trees, shrubs and vines native to New York State, as well as collections of notable trees, flowering ornamental trees and shrubs, tough trees for tough sites, conifers, and oaks. Two old growth forests and additional natural areas representing various stages of succession await visitors The Van Loveland Perennial Garden at the old farmhouse is a seasonal favorite. Interpretive signage aids visitors in their enjoyment and understanding of the collections and ecosystems of the Arboretum, and QR codes allow an audio interpretation in many of the collections. Now beginning its second 50 years, the Landis Arboretum is a "Garden of Trees and Shrubs" in New York's Capital region. The Landis Arboretum is a valuable cultural and scientific resource that grows in scope and community impact.See more..

4.5Sunflowers Of Sanborn(8 reviews) - Great Place! Wednesday: 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Gardens
I went today, during a craft fair. The field of flowers is beautiful, and easy to walk through. The craft show was well organized. The more permanent buildings where food and other items are sold are interesting and fun. There were three food trucks. I like how they had picnic tables arranged under shade trees. They do not charge to park or enter, but there are plenty of activities and stuff calling out for money. This place is great for kids and families.See more..
4.5Sunnyside Gardens(8 reviews) - Sunnyside Gardens Fun for All Gardens
This is a great place to visit with friends or for families with children. Sunnyside Gardens had a special area set up just for children to walk through and a great place for parents to take the picture is they used hay bales to create different characters. The outside is filled with every kind of pumpkin you can think of as well as different types of squashes that are a pretty pallet. Inside their greenhouse they had a diorama set up that they obviously spent a lot of time on. Each area of the dioramas represented a different theme. they had beautiful variations of Indian corn for sale, Halloween decorations, fresh cider donuts, and apple cider for sale. They had plenty of carts and wagons to pull to carry all your goods. I highly recommend visiting this place every year. It is truly a sunny atmosphere for families and friends to visit. And it also is a great place to take pictures.See more..
