4.5Mount Jo(341 reviews) - Great short hike Mountains
This was a fun hike with a little bit of everything for a beginner. We took this hike to introduce our son’s girlfriend to hiking. Note that this trail starts in an area that has a fee to park- $15 per car. The summit is about 700 ft climb from the trail head. You can go up and back on the same trail or make it a loop. We took the “short” trail up, this is the right fork. This side is more boulders and a steeper climb. There are a few spots that you might call a rock scramble, but nothing crazy, and no ledges. The steepest section at the summit has wooden stairs over the rock. You get great views of some of the real high peaks and of Heart Lake. The way down we took the “long” path. This was not as steep, but the path was less boulders and more tree roots. This side was also wetter than the short path. Other trails are accessible from the same parking area, and there is a snack bar and ice cream shop that opened at 2pm.See more..

5.0Bald Mountain(164 reviews) - Best Lake Views In Old Forge-Inlet Area Mountains
Great, semi easy hike where stunning views of quite a few ADK lakes await at the top. We didn’t climb the fire tower and chose to sit on the rock face at the top instead to admire the scenery. There are always people hiking up and down so you never feel isolated and help is nearby. Dogs welcome and abundant. The only caveat is there is a lot of rock face on this hike so having shoes that grip is probably helpful. Some of the rock is very worn and pointed like a triangle in places. There are walkarounds but not in some areas where it can get tricky. Parking could be better on busy weekends. Porta potties at the bottom entrance.See more..
4.5Breakneck Ridge Loop(106 reviews) - Third time hiking always love this trail Spent 2-3 hours Mountains • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
This was the third time i did the breakneckrdge hike. All times we started later in the day around 3pm and was able to find parking no problem and all the crowds had already finished the hike. The first section of the hike is straight up and for us super fun. You have t have proper hiking shoes and be in descent shape and bring water. The views are phenomenal and this time there were lots of hawks drifting in the air sort of suspended and riding the air it was magical. The start of the hike can be a little strenuous but the end is a meandering path. Despite the naysayers saying it’s dangerous. it’s fine you do need to be careful but if you are aware and in pretty good shape you’ll do great. again this was our third time to hike this and we thoroughly enjoyed it every time.See more..

5.0Hadley Mountain(20 reviews) - Well Worth the Effort Mountains
This is a relatively difficult trek going towards the top of the mountain, it is very steep for 2/3 of the time. Bring a lot of water and wear good shoes with traction. The views from the fire tower are breath-taking! When we went, it was so clear that you could see for miles in all directions. See more..
4.5Algonquin Mountain(17 reviews) - unbelievable scenery Spent More than 3 hours Mountains
Hiked Algonquin June 2018..did Wright Peak and Iroquois too. The views were just incredible and the summit was a really great place to be. Its a tough hike and especially to do all three is a long day and very tiring. But if you are a hiker this is absolutely worth the effort to get there..take lots of water for the tripSee more..
4.5Mount Beacon(15 reviews) - Nice view of the Hudson River Mountains • Nature & Wildlife Areas
I love this trail for a quick hike to see the Hudson River. The path starts on stairs and proceeds with gravel to the top where there is a power house ruins. Bring a windbreaker in winter as it could get a little cold from the breeze.See more..
4.0Baker Mountain(14 reviews) - Why was it longer? Mountains
I read reviews and turned right at the fork as directed. The sign at the entrance said “Baker Trail .9 miles”, so I can’t understand how my Fitbit told me it was 1.4 to the summit? (And 2.8 round trip). I didn’t stray from the markers much at all. It was definitely a moderate hike, plenty of easy trail but also some areas navigating huge boulders/stepped rock climbing. There were several interesting formations, like a tree that grew around a boulder, but the boulder is gone so you see this gangly root system. Also there is an area that looks like it was blasted out so the rocks are almost in the shape of a rectangular room. Along the trail I met a hiker who told me that this was the smallest of the Saranac 6er hikes. It’s got an elevation increase of almost 900’ and a great view from the top. See more..
5.0Black Bear Mountain(13 reviews) - Great hike, but not for young children Mountains • Hiking Trails
This trail is easy to follow, clearly marked, and maintained by a volunteer trail crew. It shares its parking area with Rocky Mt, but this is a longer hike: plan for half a day (or more) & take a picnic lunch to enjoy when you get on top. I would not recommend this hike for a family with small children, although kids 5-10 and older can do it... small children will tire quickly and you will be carrying them the rest of the way. There is more than one way to get to the top (a branch trail circles the base and comes in from the back) but the main trail, from Rte 28, is the best & most visibly marked trail to follow. It's steep when you get near the top, so supervise younger children! Nice views in several directions, lots of open rock on top to sit and picnic. You can see see several lakes of the Fulton Chain, as well as the Inlet Golf Course... and if you walk along the top and look from the other side, you can see Blue Mt on a good day. See more..
The Lady at the bottom in the tollbooth told us visibility was zero at the summit and the summit is about 5 miles to travel to get to. The radar said that the afternoon would be partly sunny so we took our chances she was right the summit was completely engulfed in clouds after about 45 minutes the clouds got less and less and we got to see with no clouds if you can go on a cloudy day it’s pretty awesome to experience what it’s like to be in a cloud. The top hiking section was close to the WeatherStation due to Covid but many great views are still seen. The bathrooms are open at the top and food concession is also open at the top. Make sure you read your car manual to understand how to drive down steep hills without burning up your brakes. This place was really awesome it’s a must do if you are in the lake placid areaSee more..
4.0Bull Hill (Mt.Taurus)(11 reviews) - Great views and less crowds on weekdays! Spent 2-3 hours State Parks • Mountains • Hiking Trails
Best time to hike to avoid crowds is on a weekday. We did this and only saw a few people on the trail. Very tranquil and joyful! Depending where you start the loop there is either a gradual incline and then a gradual decline. A good workout when climbing up. Perfect picnic stop at the top for lunch. The views remind me a bit of Switzerland, the green hills and a pristine looking river/lake. After hiking, the town of Cold Spring has many good eats. We had to get ice cream and ate it overlooking a romantic lake with a gazebo. Perfect spot for romantic vibes!See more..

4.5Big Slide Mountain(5 reviews) - Novice climber Spent More than 3 hours Mountains
New to the climbing game I decided to tackle Big Slide via the brothers. There were great views throughout the entire hike. Trails were in great shape easy to navigate and stay in the trail. Summit must have had about 20 people on it once we arrived. Going from my couch to the summit wasn’t easy but we made it in about 5.5 hours up and back. See more..
5.0Azure Mountain(4 reviews) - Azure Mt - beautiful place for a picnic on top of the world! Mountains
Azure Mt is a short but steep climb. It's in the middle of nowhere, albeit a pretty nowhere! We stayed at Deer Valley Trails - beautiful, clean, new spacious rooms, and the restaurant is right there too. The trail is very easy to follow - it took us out of shape 60 yr olds an hour to summit. We spent an hour on top - it was that pretty! Follow the trail to the left of the fire tower to the boulder - good place to picnic. Took us 45 min to descend. Great climb for when you don't have time for a high peak, but want to feel like you are on top of the world :)See more..

4.0Snow Mountain(4 reviews) - A great hike Mountains
The entrance to the hike is a little tricky to find, but if you locate the Snow Goose Bed and Breakfast (www.thesnowgoose.com), the entrance is about 100 yards south, on the same side of the road as the B&B. You hike up Deer Brook, the trail is clearly marked, and if the water is high there is another route, clearly marked, for that circumstance. It's a short hike in distance, but steep, so allow 4 hours and bring water and some snacks. The view from the top is great, and since it's not one of the higher peaks in the area you can usually have to the top to yourself. We did it with a 12 year-old and a dog, and it was tiring but great.See more..
5.0Stom King Mountain(4 reviews) - Butter Hill and Storm King Delights Mountains
We hikes three different trails on Storm King Park this October and each time we had a new view and thrill when we reached a view point. But the best one was our final ascent to the summit of Storm King itself. We saw sweeping views of the river and the surrounding Hudson Highlands--and we were properly exhausted from the combination of scrambling and climbing on the trails. It's a good workout on all the various trails. Go and see for yourself what natural beauty exists so close to New York City!See more..
4.5Hackensack Mountain(3 reviews) - Nice little hike in Warrensburg Spent 2-3 hours Mountains • Parks • Hiking Trails Went hiking with my grandson. We enjoyed the hike and the views from the top. The trails are well marked but take the one that goes to the pond first not as steep a climb.See more..
4.5Mackenzie Mountain(2 reviews) - Great hike! Spent More than 3 hours Mountains • Hiking Trails • Forests
Great view of the high peaks at the top of this very challenging climb! We found this the most challenging of the Saranac 6 but the view at the top was well worth it! We started from the Haystack trailhead but I hear the jackrabbit trailhead represents an easier approach so consider that as the top part of the mountain is a workout!See more..
4.5Moxham Mountain(2 reviews) - Enjoyable hike with fantastic views Mountains
CNY Hiking said it better than I could: "The 2.7 mile trail to Moxham Mountain was constructed in the summer of 2012 and features many overlooks with scenic views, while the most spectacular views are from the 2418 foot summit. There is an elevation gain of 1152 feet for this 2.7 mile hike to the summit, however the trail was built to minimize the climb as much as possible. This is a truly enjoyable hike with view, after view, after another view in the Vanderwhacker Mountain Wild Forest of the Adirondacks." Our extended family (3 generations) loved this day hike, with a picnic at the summit.See more..
