Scenic Drives

Before the Thruway, this was the best way to cross NY State in an east-west direction. Now it offers an excellent sampling of small-town and rural Americana. First of all, the countryside is beautiful and some of the vistas are downright spectacular. I never knew so much corn is grown in NY. My favorite section is from Madison to Albany (about 100 miles). The road is mostly four lanes and in good shape. There is very little traffic and virtually no tractor trailers to bother you. You will bisect numerous small towns and villages, most with superb examples of 19th century houses and buildings. Some have seen better days, but many are still vibrant. Take your time and stop at farm stands, village diners, and gas stations. People are happy to talk to you. See more..

Beautiful road but not for the faint at heart! As shown in the Marvel movie, Dr Stange, it is very windy and the short block wall is the guard rail. This was in the beginning of the movie, where he has the car accident. Worth the trip to see the view and windy road! See more..

I always enjoy the Seven Lakes Drive scenery. It is a good place to visit during any season, but I especially love to visit during the height of the fall foliage. It can be very packed here and people may struggle to find parallel parking on the side of the road. People should also take notice of the speed limits in this park. See more..

This was an amazing place to visit. I could not say enough good things about it. It was a nice hike through the woods before getting to the water and the falls. Climbed all over the rocks and admired the ponds. Highly recommend a visit there. As I recall it was a little off the beaten path and not very well marked. See more..
