4.5Ferncliff Forest(52 reviews) - Wooded walk with killer views! Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails • Forests
This is by far our favorite "nature walk" in the area to take guests, especially city friends. It's a mini-hike in the woods, suitable for all ages (about 15 minutes, wear sturdy shoes). Take the Fire tower trail and enjoy the cool green serenity of the woods - believe it or not this oasis is in the middle of Rhinebeck! At the end is a fire tower, which is a relic from another day and age, long since replaced by GPS systems. Climb the steps to the most AMAZING view in the area. You can see the silhouette of the Catskill Mountains across the Hudson River, with stunning sunsets. Also in view is the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge, rolling hills of the "Great Estates" along the river and spin around for a view of The Taconic Range on a clear day. WOW.See more..
4.5High Rock Park(50 reviews) - Beautiful Parks • Forests
Located on the highest point in the eastern United States. In the green belt park system of parks dept a truly serene and attractive area, you would not believe your in nyc. A nice hike to the top and great way to spend the day in summer spring or fall. My suggestion is bug spray and water. Several private homes dot the area and new construction is forbidden. Enjoy!!!See more..
It was a beautiful spring day here in Western New York, 40 degrees with a brilliant blue sky. My friend suggested a hike, so I went to my hiking bucket list and chose Tillman Road Wildlife Management Area. We had such a good time walking on the boardwalk and beyond, around a large pond or small lake. We found out after we drove away from the parking area that there are a few other parking areas, and the trails appear to be much more extensive than we thought they were. If we go back, I hope we can have a map of the trails with usSee more..

Great place to hike with kids and dogs. It's never crowded and hardly ever see any other hikers on the trail. It's our favorite activity from spring to fall. Honestly I've never tried coming here during the winter months. Easy to find parking and not too difficult to hike. It also is were we come to have fun at our favorite waterfall.See more..

4.5Blauvelt State Park(2 reviews) - Fascinating!! State Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Forests
The first of all Try google with the name of " Camp Bluefields " is, a rifle range used to train members of the New York National Guard prior to World War I. Can you believe it? Since WWI!!! Blauvelt State Park is a 644-acre undeveloped state park located in the Town of Orangetown in Rockland County, New York, near the Hudson River Palisades.. It's huge place has so much going on but SAFE! so many people with dog or just waking as hiking .. It's vaccinating There was tunnel underneath of the fence It's still there but we didn't go inside the tunnel :):) Huge long tunnel and lots of fun massage such as " Don't go there. If you do you'll die!" It's joke by teenager LOL It's safe Trust me but use your common sense to go inside the tunnel. :):) but it was really fun place. and history! Free to walk around.. 4.5Mackenzie Mountain(2 reviews) - Great hike! Spent More than 3 hours Mountains • Hiking Trails • Forests
Great view of the high peaks at the top of this very challenging climb! We found this the most challenging of the Saranac 6 but the view at the top was well worth it! We started from the Haystack trailhead but I hear the jackrabbit trailhead represents an easier approach so consider that as the top part of the mountain is a workout!See more..
4.0Pharsalia Woods State Forest(1 review) - Great Hiking, birdwatching, and nature loving opportunities. Spent 1-2 hours Forests This is a great place to go hiking. Its kind of secluded and boarders many other parks, and state forests allowing you to hike and camp if you so desire and to extend your trip for a few days or more. (Finger Lakes Trail runs through this forest) Its in a small town in Chenango County and a little tricky to find. But once your there, if you like seclusion, and observing nature...this is your place. (Dont know how the winter is there; may be snowmobiles) You could probably mountain bike these trails too. There were maps available on site. We hiked approx. 1 1/2 hours with dogs...a trail that was easy; however, it was both up and down hills...I dont know how many "flat" trails there are as we've just begun to explore this area. Lots of trees and forests in the part we chose to explore...I dont think theres a lot of open area. There is parking along side the road which is really wide and plenty of room.See more..
