House of Frankenstein Wax Museum image
After nonstop begging to visit this place, my buddy and I caved and brought our older sons to visit. It’s a classic. It’s not scary at all. After walking the exhibit, I would recommend for kids 10 years and up, but not younger. There were a couple of spots that made the kids jump but they weren’t scared to proceed. The kids could tell it wasn’t real and was only mechanical statues. They enjoyed it so I’m happy we brought them. It’s a Lake George landmark so you should try at least once. See more..

    Hudson River Maritime Museum image
We took a lighthouse tour on the Solaris that was so brilliant we booked another one! The first trip took us out to the Rondout Lighthouse. The boat trip itself was beautiful, and our guides were friendly, funny and knowledgeable about the river's history. Their love of the region & for the environment was palpable. Next, we went on an early morning birding tour with an expert who lent us his fancy specialist binoculars. We saw bald eagles, ospreys, cormorants, blue herons, and many more. Booking a tour on the Solaris means you get free entry to the spellbinding Museum, and we ended up spending the whole day. The boat tour changed what I thought about the river in general and lighthouse living in particular. I didn't realize that little slice of water had so much history, and such environmental significance. Frankly, I think the price is a real bargain, as you get hours of entertainment and a unique experience. Highly recommend. See more..

Dunkirk Lighthouse & Veterans Park Museum image
I arrived on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, just at the last hour to take the guided tour. My guide was Jim Arnold, He is the grandson of Francis Arnold, who was attached to this lighthouse site from 1909 to 1950 in some capacity, including lighthouse keeper. The notes that I took were misplaced , by me, somewhere along the line, so I hope my memory of these events are not too far off while writing this memo. This is one of the best lighthouse keepers house I have seen, The home artifacts are beautiful, the inside construction, furnishings, tableware, cabinetry. Some of the nicest stuff. My tour guide, Jim, knows a lot about the history and genealogy here. If you want to take a tour, go inside the buildings or climb the tower, you need to pay for the guided tour. More than fair. To just walk around the grounds I think is free. I took some pics that I will attempt to attach to this memo. Fritomann See more..

Top Cottage - Home Of Franklin D Roosevelt image
The only way to visit here is by taking a NP bus from the FDR visitor center. A National Park Ranger is on the bus telling about known and many unknown facts about FDR. Sitting on the porch in the wicker rockers listening to the ranger relating stories of FDR and his family was one of the best afternoons ever! They only allow a few people to go at a time, so make sure you purchase your tickets at the visitor's center. I also don't think they take the bus up to the cottage more than 2 times a day, so plan your trip accordingly. The tickets to Val-Kil are also available only at the Visitor Center and a limited number of people are allowed on each ranger led tour. Anytime you have an opportunity to go on any NP Ranger led activity, just DO IT! They have so much knowledge of the park where they work, it is always such an interesting tour. See more..

This is an excellent museum that has many detailed displays. In particular I enjoyed the “Great War” pieces that included detailed uniforms. It was a relaxing and enjoyable way to spend the morning. There is no charge for admission, making it perfect for budget conscious family fun! Keep up the great work! See more..

After reading the reviews we were pleasantly surprised with our visit to the museum. There was lots of interesting information about the residents of Niagara Falls, to the people who have gone over the falls by accident or on purpose. Also, information about the various crossings built to get to Canada and lots more. It’s very good value for the money. See more..

Went to Medina Train Museum & Polar Express train ride with 2 small children (ages 2 &4). They loved the museum, so much to see & very interactive. We arrived early & had plenty of time to look @ all the trains. Everytime you looked at the set up you saw something different. It was great. We really went for the Polar Express with Santa & were surprised with the museum. The train ride was so cute, the chefs served cookies & hot cocoa. They read the polar express as we rode, I must say it was hard to hear because the children were so excited to see Santa. 1/2 way through, Santa came aboard, the children were so excited!! He talked to every child & took time for many pictures, the cildren's face were priceless!!! Well worth the trip & plan to do it again next year. See more..

Small and charming museum that offers a clear and interesting introduction to the Erie Canal and its history. Situated close to the famous "Flight of Five" set of locks, where you can see what you learned in action. Allow about an hour to explore the exhibits and watch the introductory video (with a simple but engaging multi media component). Great for adults and kids ages 6+. See more..

    Grape Discovery Center image
This was a really fascinating place to visit. They have a room where you can learn about how grapes are grown and the science and knowledge that goes into growing and harvesting grapes. The gift shop was full of little finds. There is also a tasting room where you can sample wines or get a grape slushie (non-alcoholic) and was probably the best slushie I have ever had. I highly recommend getting one of those! See more..

Staten Island Museum at Snug Harbor image
I always like taking the ferry from Manhattan to Staten Island. Make sure to give yourself 4 to 5 or maybe 6 hours because there is a lot to see in that area. A really cool art exhibit titled Truth on Display at the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art. Learning the history of the SNUG Museum is worst going back in time. Must see if you're in NYC.
