    - Take the Fascinating Tour!
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Cemeteries
    Green-Wood cemetery image
The history of this cemetery makes it a fascinating place and the best way to learn about the history is by taking a guided tour on the trolley. I don't recall the name of our guide but he was a self-described taphophile (cemetery enthusiast) who works at Green-wood. He was outstanding! He clearly has plenty of knowledge of cemeteries (especially Green-wood), is a great presenter, and is very enthusiastic which makes even the most obscure information interesting. Famous "residents" of the cemetery as well as famous and unique features (such as pyramids and obelisks) and zinc grave stones were highlighted. Highly recommended! See more..

Mount Hope, dedicated in 1838, is America's first municipal Victorian Cemetery. Set in a picturesque landscape shaped by retreating glaciers, the cemetery contains priceless pieces of art and rare horticultural specimens. It is the final resting place of many dignified and internationally known individuals, including Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass, and is on the National Park Services National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. Hope/Highland Preservation District, featuring 83 mausoleums, soaring Egyptian obelisks, a Florentine cast-iron fountain, two stone chapels in the Gothic Revival style, a Moorish gazebo, a Victorian Gothic gatehouse, and infinitely varied tombstones marking 350,000 graves across 196 acres. 7. 4.5 Lake View Cemetery (135 reviews)
    - Nice cemetery to drive around and look for Lucy
    Spent < 1 hour Cemeteries
    Lake View Cemetery image
Taking in the Lucille Ball tour, we drove past her birth home and childhood home before stopping by her final resting place. If you manage to take the main entrance at Buffalo St and Lakeview Ave, you will see the red hearts that lead to her grave site making it very easy to find (not so much if you go in a different entrance). I did find it odd the website for the cemetery does not mention Lucille Ball being buried there except at the end of an article stating B.F Goodrich is buried there also and where his plot is in relation to hers. The cemetery is huge (over 45,000 graves) and has some nice grave sites if want to drive around the grounds See more..
  8. 5.0 Oakwood Cemetery (62 reviews)
    - Beautiful Park-like, Historic, Resting Place of Uncle Sam
    Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM Cemeteries
    Oakwood Cemetery image
My sister told me about this cemetery after seeing their website. We took a day and drove nearly 2 hours to tour it. They are very welcoming and the man in the office was more than happy to provide a guide map of the cemetery. There was a beautiful bluff overlooking the river valley as well as 2 waterfalls, lakes, and historic monuments. The stones, mausolea, roads, landscaping, and sculptures were awesome. They had a nice chapel in the middle of the cemetery which was closed but structurally impressive as well as a huge chapel and crematorium near one of the entrances. The resting place of "Uncle Sam" Wilson who provided meat to soldiers in I believe, the War of 1812 is in this cemetery. He stamped "U.S" on the crates and the soldiers said they got a shipment from "Uncle Sam" They offer tours too here and we plan to go. Check out their website. Visiting is free but the tours have a nominal cost. See more..

    Albany Rural Cemetery image
I was struck by how large this cemetery is. There are some immaculate headstones and crypts throughout the acres. There were many areas that clearly haven't been maintained with excessive foliage and plant growth. However, President Arthur's grave area was freshly mowed. You can definitely be here for hours walking around. See more..

I can't imagine a better Cemetery than Oak Hill Cemetery. My parents are buried there. I have a plot and monument ready for my family when the time comes. This cemetery is rich in history dating back to the early 1800's. Oak Hill Cemetery is very well maintained, and extremely scenic with beautiful views of the Hudson River and Tappan Zee Bridge. Large mausoleums line the top of the cemetery hill. A person can spend hours walking around the cemetery. It's like stepping back into history. Take a drive over and check out Oak Hill Cemetery for yourself. It is definitely work a look. See more..

    Holy Cross Cemetery image
Holy Cross Cemetery maintains strong traditions of faith that date back to the founding of these services in the 18th century. This beautiful cemetery is one of the multiple Catholic cemetery locations that serve families in the Capital Region. The founding of the first location was just the beginning, with an expansion to offer religious and charitable services throughout the region, supported by the Roman Catholic Church. When families contact Holy Cross Cemetery, they have access to both memorialization support and burial services. This local cemetery provides the perfect balance of traditional Catholic principles with modern burial solutions. In addition to conventional ground burial plots, families also have the option to choose from other services like cremation gardens, a columbarium, niches, private mausoleums, and personal family estates. Even though burial practices have shifted over the years, the team is committed to offering a full range of services to meet the needs of each individual. When choosing Holy Cross Cemetery services, you can have confidence in knowing that the staff will keep you focused on the specific details that honor Catholic tradition. Each family has access to work with a designer for a customized permanent memorial. These products are offered in a range of prices, designs, and sizes. Granite and cast bronze are popular choices to match traditional design features. Other available burial services include grief support, family heritage lots, green burials, and pastoral care ministry. Additionally, the cemetery offers a beautiful collection of art and history in their book: “These Sacred Grounds- Celebrating 150 Years of St. Agnes Cemetery.” Holy Cross Cemetery promises quality and care when families need support. These burial and cemetery services are available in multiple locations, including Albany, Niskayuna, Delmar, Glenmont, Rotterdam, Schenectady, Troy, Colonie, Clifton Park, Watervliet, and Glenville.
