The Hessel Museum on the Bard campus is an interesting look at contemporary art. Mrs. Hessel showed her private collection that has been donated to the museum as one of the exhibitions I saw that day. Very unusual art. The other exhibition was a Product & Design exhibition of works from the 1980's. I never even knew this was a movement. The works in home décor were very striking and had some interesting looks to them. The museum is larger than it seems and will take about two hours to fully appreciate. I paid $86 for two people to go in Buffalo, NY. First you walk into a dark room, black walls, and you move up and down 3 aisles with images of Van Gogh Art on glass. There are words in the forefront giving an oversimplified narrative of his work and life. Once in a while you will read a quote. Then theres dark waiting area with swirling lights kind of like the Halloween displays you see on the side of a house. Then you enter a huge room with low resolution images in a collage fashion just changing over and over like a huge powerpoint. And you just sit and look at that I guess. The paintings most people have seen before. Possibly you are supposed to marvel at how they got it to be on the floor and walls? The end. The end of my $86. Learned a couple minute things. Left astonished. Did not educate nor honor the man and his work. Maybe if I had paid half that I would be more satisfied.See more..
