It's hectic, overcrowded and too much traffic getting in and out of parking...waste of time when you think about the ease and convenience of shopping online instead. Heading back to Albany after a long daytrip to Schoharie, I stopped at Hamilton Square, a mid-sized shopping center. There were four restaurants: Tesoro's Italian Restaurant, Jimmy Johns Gourmet Sandwiches, Kings Wok, and Starbucks – all a cut above usual mall fast-food places and all well rated. There's a Dunkin' in Star Plaza which is next door to Hamilton Square. Stores of interest to travelers included Dollar Tree, Bella Fine Jewelry, 20 Mall Wine & Liquor, Market32 by Price Chopper, and Cece's Wool, Yarn & More. Service businesses for travelers included Supercuts, Happy Nails, and Snip-its Haircuts for Kids. Citizens Bank and M&T Bank had offices there. There was also a Cricket Wireless, Empire Visionworks, and other stores. During my visit, I shopped at Cece's Wool, Yarn & More which carried a full line of supplies for knitters and crocheters. On vacation in the Greater Albany area for several days, I had a Shop ‘til You Drop day. After checking out of a hotel on Wolf Road, I went to the Northway Shopping Center which is directly across Central Avenue from Colonie Center where I’d shopped in October en route home from Canada. This shopping center has stores that Colonie Center doesn’t. It has a variety of stores to fit different budgets. On the higher end is Eddie Bauer. Other stores include Target, buy buy Baby, Marshalls, David's Bridal, Jo-Ann, Petco, and Staples. There’s a Lowe’s out back. During my visit, I shopped first at Target. I looked at clothes, shoes, toys, and summer merchandise. Target had some nice things. Then, I shopped at Marshalls. I looked at shoes, housewares, clothes, beach bags, soft-side coolers, and other summer merchandise. Marshall’s had a lot better-quality things at good prices. I rate shopping at Northway Shopping Center at 3.50. I recommend this mall to those looking for budget-priced merchandise and those who want to shop at a smaller mall than the large Colonie Center. On vacation in the Greater Albany area for several days, I had a Shop ‘til You Drop day. After checking out of a hotel on Wolf Road, I went to the Northway Shopping Center first and then on to the Crossgates Mall and Stuyvesant Plaza. After a break for lunch and an attempt to see Poestenkill Falls, I went to Brunswick Plaza Shopping Center. Brunswick Plaza Shopping Center is a good-sized shopping center with a coffee shop/café, stores, and service businesses of interest to travelers. This shopping center is arranged in an unusual layout. It’s in a back-to-back L-shape. On the L side, one finds Dollar Tree, Market 32 (formerly Price Chopper), Pets Supplies Plus, Plaza Discount Wines & Liquors, Pet Supplies Plus, Auto Zone, Verizon, and AT &T. Across the top of the L are T-Mobile, an outdoor furniture store, and Sprint. In the backwards L are the Goodwill store, Solar Nails, and MochaBlend Espresso Bar & Café, a cute little place ~ one of those little hidden gems. . Then, in a strip across the parking lot are a freestanding Trust Co ATM near Albany Med EmUrgent Care and Metro Mattress. I had two visits to Brunswick Plaza Shopping Center on two different days during my visit to the Greater Albany area. On the first visit, I checked out Goodwill to see if there were any interesting items there. I found both new and used music CD’s in 100% perfect condition. There were quite a few music CD’s for children there. On the second visit, I went to Dollar Tree to get a replacement plastic container for snacks, a box of Baker’s Harvest crackers, and a package of Lance Toasty Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers for travel snacking. For a break from malls with mostly clothing stores and the presence an ATM, a grocery store, an urgent care facility, a dollar store, other shopping, and service businesses as well as a nice coffee shop, I rate Brunswick Plaza Shopping Center at 4.0. 3.0Hudson River Commons(1 review) - FORMER TROY PLAZA SHOPPING CENTER RENAMED Spent 1-2 hours Shopping Malls The Former Troy Plaza Shopping Center was sold to another developer who renamed it Hudson River Commons. The Hudson River Commons shopping plaza has a lot of dining options at the Sonic Drive-In, Green Shell for Chinese food, Little Caesars Pizza, Starbucks, Subway, and Friendly’s for full-service dining. There is a branch of the Saratoga National Bank with an ATM. Retail includes Cricket Wireless, Shoe Dept., Family Dollar, Rainbow Shops, Pretty Nails Salon, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car. During my visit to Troy, I ate at the Subway for lunch one day and at the Green Shell another day. Both were good. I also checked out the Little Caesars Pizza. That was strictly takeout. There was no seating. The Rainbow Shops was a new store for me. I looked at it. It carried trendy fashions for juniors and plus-size women’s clothing, plus shoes and accessories at budget prices. I rate Hudson River Commons at 3.50. It had a range of dining options and enough variety of shops and service businesses to be above-average. I enjoyed eating there and browsing the retail stores.
