    Lafayette Theatre image
The Lafayette Theatre, named for the Revolutionary War hero the Marquis de Lafayette, was designed by architect Eugene DeRosa and its construction completed in 1924. Originally, it was equipped with a custom-designed Muller organ to accompany silent films and live performances. The silent film “Scaramouche” directed by Rex Ingram was the first to grace its screen. At that time tickets cost 25 cents! The theater became home to live vaudeville shows and film presentations and has since remained a single screen movie theater. In the late 1980s, the old stage was redone and the New York Theatre Organ Society installed a new organ, the Ben Hall Memorial Mighty Wurlitzer. The Lafayette remains a single screen movie palace to this day. See more..

  50. 4.5 Crown Point State Historic Site (98 reviews)
    - A very interesting piece of history

Crown Point State Historic Site image
We didn't know what to expect at Crown Point but were so glad we went. Turned out to be a great stop during our trip to the Adirondacks. Visiting historic sites and seeing it in person makes you appreciate those years in school of trying to learn about it. While there are a few ruins left of the British side at Crown Point, there's virtually nothing left on the French side. The British won this battle after all, but Samuel De Champlain was the first to spot it and claim it for France. You see alot of the word "Champlain" around here. Be sure to walk across the street to see the Champlain Lighthouse Memorial as well. This site is open and free, however, there is a charge to go into the museum. See more..
